Optimal Sprint Spikes

I thought you were talking about different spikes- not spikes in general- they’ll make a big difference vs flats, if that’s what you mean. Sorry for the confusion!

I´m anxious to see how Nike Monsterfly will work.

The Monsterfly’s sound interesting, but I probably wouldn’t buy them at first unless I had heard good things about them. I would like to try them, just to see how they feel.

They sound a little gimmicky. It also didn’t make much sense that they studied rats sprinting to help design it.

No sense at all- rats don’t have 250 dollars- although Nike’s been pretty “cheesy” when it comes to paying foreign workers!

250 US$ ?!?!
Well, with all this money i prefer;
79.99 - Speed Training Series One :: Vancouver
69.99 - GPP
9.99 - Speed Trap
16.99 - Training for Speed
29.99 - The Black Book of Training Secrets
and 1 pair of Adidas Meteor !!! Much better investiment…
Tk god i already have 3 of them…

Actualy, first time i saw Monsterfly, i thought that the name was because the likeness with Jason Mask ( in blood of course ).

Very good thread guys!
I’m a man who has had plenty of spikes! Trust me! Sometimes (as shallow as it sounds) its been due to seeing a certain pair on a dude in comp and thinking ’ I want those!’ Ok… Now for some tried and tested models:

Nike Zoom SuperFlys (Old Mo spike): A good spike. Only problems I found with these is the plate and the zipper. The plate is stong and rigid to begin with but after a lot of use they don’t give you that ‘power’ feeling. Also my zipper keeps on coming down while i run and I’ve broken a few of the zippers as well!

Nike Celar (Silver and black): Nice and light but didn’t take to them well. I was used to the plate that the Super Flys had. Felt like I couldn’t get up on my toes enough while in my ‘inflight’ position. Funny thing was that my drive phase felt awesome in these. At least the zip stayed up on these

Mizuno Geo Spark 2 (Blue pair with Illuminous yellow and Red flame pair):

Without a doubt the best spikes ever to bless my feet! The plate gave me a sence of immortalty! In fact when I wore these last year I lost only a few races! Its amazing the confidence you can get when you find a spike that suits you! Fantastic plate and very flexible. The Mizuno pins are great too. The shroud over the spike works great and the zipper stays up. Nice and light but also very powerful. (Anyone would think I worked for Mizuno! )

Adidas DeMOlishers: I shouldn’t really say too bad a word about these spikes as the got me my PB indoors this year  . BUT out doors has been a different scenario. The fit is second to none. The plate isn’t as rigid as the Geo Spark and can sometime make you feel like you flat footed. The pins that come with the spike are terrible! They crumble to pieces if you even take a step on concrete. I think Mo’s are specially desinged with plate because I think he would find it difficult running with the standard model.

But at the end of the day its all down to personal preference! I like my plates because I’m a power sprinter. Someone very light on their feet may prefer the DeMOlishers or Celars. I also think its a good idea (finances permitting) to have 2 of the same spikes (one for comp and one for training).

Just came across this site - it may interest some! (Sorry if it you have already perused the site)

 I just clicked on everything!!! Did you see the new Chrono Dash!!! Awesome! Might invest in a pair of those!!!

If the end of your zippers are broken you can keep the zippers from coming down by folding the shroud back onto itself.

Does anyone know if the Adidas Adistar Powersprint II aka the demolisher are any good shoes? When did they come out? Are they for light sprinters?(i only weigh 130.)
I might just grab these at eastbay.com or wait till january for the monster fly…
Thanks.

Here’s a link to some pics of Nike Monsterfly, Maxcat and Celar 2. The heel on monsterfly seems strange very strange indeed…

Here is some interesting data-

http://www.usatf.org/news/view.asp?DUid=USATF_2004_07_02_22_45_10

The results from a recent survey from American Track & Field Magazine revealed a solid year for track spikes sales in 2003, including marketplace shares from 11 notable companies. Nike leads the way with 60 percent of the marketplace.

In 2003, over 760,000 pairs of track spikes were sold, netting $34,560,000 in income, with the average pair of spikes costing $48.00.

Not that I like to gloat or anything…but guess who just won those new Demolishers…

I think that the best spike is different for everybody. It depends on how heavy you are build, how narrow your feet are and what kind of sprinter you are (power or flyer)

For me zoom superfly bowermans are the best
