R U serious? the first time i watched the video i thought he was just trying to get the bar on his back right so that is why he re-racked it, only to find out that that was his "squat’. if that was a squat i know a lot of people who would be doing 1000 lbs, but that is not a squat, and nothing close to it.
i’m not trying to be mean, but do you really consider that a squat or anything near the one that ronnie does?
on that last squat where he is going down to about 1/3rd squat level, i have done them before, but with a much closer feet stance at a weight of 220kg (484)for 5+ reps at a body weight of 72kg (158). But i dont squat much anymore. Also, i never had something to bounce the weight off like that guy did, there were no saftey racks.
Its not something i ever did in a gym with other people around, it was only done with other running parterns around, i didnt want to look like a tool.
I’m considering that claimed squat weights are bullshit. There are no rules! Go down a random distance then come up. A few inches is a few hundred pounds.
Other lifts are more defined.
Bench/incline press: touch chest, press up
Deadlift: lift bar from floor to lockout
clean: lift bar to a shoulder rack
snatch: lift bar overhead
squat: go down a random distance then come up. A few inches is a few hundred pounds difference.
That Coleman Squat was just between a quarter squat and a parallel squat. A couple of inches above parallel. No way you could ever count that as parallel squat.
Just a Dumb question, why is he not squatting inside a squat rack?
Oooooooh wait I got it, it’s bc he wants the photographers to get a clean shot! I wonder how that 1 guy could spot him should a knee go out? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
there are rules, just the guy in the vid wasnt following them.
for my squats i go down to where the top of my thigh is at parallel. if i did squats like you considered, i would have to think that i would be closing in on 1,500! the only squat depths that i know of are ATG, parallel (top of the thigh) and not deep enough. using the box helps determine a real number too, as you can predetermine the depth. come on man, i know you know this stuff.
To me there is no difference neither 700 lb squat is legal, so neither would count in competition. Both people can say they squatted 700 lb because well they put it on their back and moved their legs some. I’d go with they are the same.
I mean you either say they both squatted 700+ or neither, so anyone going to up some video of their squat?
but i have seen some squats like a,b, and c that were called legal lifts in some of the biggest federations. of course those federations are the ones with triple ply everything and the depth standards are less. if something isnt deep enough i dont count it as far as “bragging rights”, but ronnies and that skinny guys shouldnt be compared for too many reasons. and for whatever it is worth a,b, and c are FAR more respectible than the knee bends posted earlier.
as for training purposes i will do 1-2 inches above parallel on a box as part of my cycles, but i have never quoted this as a max to anyone.
