Today we did 3x20 3x30 and 3x40 the 20’s from blocks and the the 30’s and 40’s from 3 point starts. We did them in groups of 4-5 and i will never do this again. Guys were pretty much racing instead of working on technique and i feel that should not have been the foucs. Id like to know how many of you train in groups or with a partner for this type of work and what is the best way to do it? Go on your own motion, have someone clap, or any other ways.
And what type of starts are most benifical in this type of training?
say word! good poents. I likes to have my peopels run wit each othar only if da dont race, or press to da line or cone. We uszualley go from a clap or whatevea
Whatevea sounds like the best method.
???
???
It is fo real. Whatevea u wantin to do is da best. Say word yo! give it up to da realest fo undestandin
Al Sharpton? For real?
Say word? Mos def!
What does that mean? I’m lost Mos Def=Most definently?
I do speed work by myself - I train by myself anyway. But Quik you’re a right about racing each other.
I would probably do blocks with a group of people though. It makes you either try and blow the person in the next lane or work out your race.
Whatever floats your boat
Being serious though, I think it can be good to do short start work with a group as it gets you used to the feel of competition. A good way of “crash testing” your starting technique.
On another point, I just don’t like 40m reps. It’s a neither here nor there distance for sprinters. I don’t like the concept of stopping as you are coming up.
I think there is real value in practicing in meet like situations. Its great to be able to focus on yourself when practicing alone…but i think the true task at hand is to be able to stay focused in the race. If you never train with anyone…there is nothing more distracting than u feeling the guy pull away from u the first 20m. With my group we use 2 technical days(starts alone or none race) and 1 day of meet simulation.
I think it all depends on what you want out of practice that day. If you want to get some race day type of practice run then together. It is also fun to run togethere and try to beat your teammates. you dont have to worry about them running hard cause they will not be trying to lose. If you are trying to concentrate on good form run them alone and look at the form.
I think short speed is good in very small groups if the athlete level is very close and you concentrate on technique. I definitely run faster when I train/practice with another sprinter but finding one to work out with on my schedule is difficult
Running against a 10.1 runner can be disheartening if you are a 11-12 second guy
I find 50’s great for this type of work. At my level I am in my transition to top speed at this point.

VERY GOOD POINT!
so you would use the distanceof 30 meters and then skip 40 and go to 50 meters?
That is what I generally do. 30’s, 50’s, 80’s, 120, 150 etc
I never really thought about the 40 meters comment, but it makes sense now that I’m thinking about it. Are there any other distance you guys don’t like to have your athletes run?
if doing anything mechanical you need to be fully aware of what you are doing.when doing starts or anything with someone there will always be a competitive streak as its totally natural.
if you are ina training group you’re coach should have you doing technical runs etc as individuals so he can address you individually.trying to watch 5 sprinters is impossible so its easier to address you individually.when a solid mechanical base is in place then start to do group sessions as this will bring on a competitive streak, make training more enhanced and take you to a race situation.
as you get expereience you will be able to do “checks” while still racing.take your time and focus on “yourself”!!!
Yeah, it does.
Yes, that’s it. Doing 40s teaches you how to push for that bit too long because you can’t stop in the middle of lift off. Very bad.
No problems with any other distance than this one.
This is a cool point I never thought about. Sorry to ask a stupid question, but is 45m okay? I’ve been doing 45s and I wanted to try to PB this weekend but I’ll move up to 50s if there’s a problem with them. This is probably relevant so I’ll note that I think I’m probably accelerating up to between 35 and 40.
