Running into a headwind

I’ve wondered… you improve top speed when running at top speed or slightly faster with some aid (tailwind). But if you’re running into a headwind, into a race for example, would it be helpful at all?

Like if I have a meet with 2 100s, and both are into strong head winds, like -3m, would there be any benefit from the meet?

If running into a headwind was helpful, Canada would be on top now.
Short answer- no! Screw the meet, go on the other side of the track and do SE in the opposite direction.

lol. I ran a twilight meet at the varsity stadium track tonight, -3m… needless to say 3 tenths off my pb.

And got a provincial championship meet on saturday… now i feel screwed!!

Doesn’t matter that much. Bolt runs into a headwind almost every meet.

Just hope you’re right lol…cause im aiming for a big pb…

bolt had that 2.1 though this year ;)

Bolt runs into headwinds cause they’re paying him 250,000 to do it.
If you get to a meet and the conditions don’t serve to advance your cause, adjust your plan to make those very same conditions work for you.
A 3m wind at your back can generate a new speed of movement pattern that you can capitalize on later. It’s not so much as there was any harm- just a missed opportunity to advance your training.

Ok thanks.
Though I have read running acceleration sprints into headwinds and then switching into tailwinds for max.V , would it work well? Or no real difference.

That’s possible as long as the number of accels into the wind is not so high that it compromises your ability to take advantage of the tailwind in the max V part of the session.
