microStretching?

ok guys, im about to start a once daily stretching program (yes i know i should have been doing it all along) and herbie sent me the link for the micro stretching program. i looked it over and it sounds good and im willing to give it a go but…

now as a jar head football player, i need a little reasurance from the CF crew that this method works and is better than “traditional” programs.

anyone…?:help:

Go for it. As you may recall in the previous thread concerning this, it is not that you will be throwing away any other stretching protocols you currently use; you are just adding another method to your vault.

Just try the routine once and see how it feels.

I tried it once, and really didn’t like it. It seemed okay for legs especially calves but I struggled with the upper body-which I really need to work.

I am going to try it again.

Nightmare - try it

The calf stretch is definitely my favorite and the one I use the most.

ok ill try it evernight for 2 weeks and see what happens. i will keep everyone posted…

questions: how do i integrate it into my regualr post workout stretching routine? do i leave it as is and just add the nightly micro sessions, extend the post workout stretch, use these techniques and poses post workout?

any other feed back on the program is still very much welcome.

I’ve been using it for a few weeks (although I have missed a few days here and there), and have found especially helpful in alleviating some lower back pain I’ve had for about 6 months. I need to be a bit more diligent though to see the benefits elsewhere.

If you do the full microstretching routine as prescribed, it’ll take about an hour. So factor that into your consideration.

I usually don’t do the full routine all the time. Most often I pick a few muscle groups to focus on and do the full three one-minute holds as prescribed and then do only one hold for the rest of the stretches. This usually reduces it to about 30min. I prefer to do it immediately post workout.

I tend to do what Flash mentioned. I use the micro-stretching on the areas that I know are chronically tight or limited in range of motion. Once a week, we may go through a whole session dependant on the athlete’s tone.

last night i did the complete program, word for word, stretch for stretch. it did take about an hour and the postitions were very low intensity but i liked it. normally i spend at least an hour a night on the couch watching TV, so instead of just laying there watching smallville, i went throught the routine.

i think it does have some merit, at least enough to give it an honest run. so day 1 down, 13 days to go. also, i will increase my post workout (morning)stretching routine and see if this helps.

could you send me a copy of this routine that Herb sent you or post the one you are doing?

thanks - i would like a look

How do I co about down loading microstretching program?

I know I click on the link to start the process, but, once it is complete: Where do I save it to and then how can I read and/or print it off for future reference?

i hope this works…

ok if you read this thread from the beginning you would have seen my scepticism in the microStretching program. and if you were around in the other forum (CF V.1.0), you may remember a heating debate between me and elitis (who is the dude behind the microstretching program.
):

http://www.charliefrancis.com/board/philboard_read.asp?id=981

even though the program seems soft and doesnt jive with my agressive nature, i said i would give it 2 weeks, follow the program to the letter and give it an honest run that i thought it deserved.

it has been 1 week and i am sold!!! if you are having any problems (esp in the lower body or lower back, try this program out, but give it an honest run, meaning, start to finish like he describes and you will feel the difference. yes it takes an hour at a time, yes it doesnt feel like you are doing much at all but it works.

yesterday i played my first football game (indoor of course) without pain in 8 months (it wa a mower back S.I. problem that ended my season last year) and the only thing that changed was the stretching program.

i dont agree with his views on art and rolfing (but i respect his opinion) but i would like to thank him for sharing this program with the rest of us. thanks elitis!!!:saint:

february is flexibility month!!!

It is a great thing!

Elitis, where are you?
Are you still alive?
That thing I read somewhere wasn’t true was it? Tell me it aint so.:frowning:

Nightmare

You should ask for a commission.

OK I’m going to have to find a hour ever coupla days to stretch. This can be added to abs, physio exercises and recovery as well.

How many hours in one day.

do you believe the stretches will lead to injury eventually?

E3

did you read the article? its a very gentle program and i would find it hard to imagine that if you follow elitis’s instructions, that this program could cause an injury.

clemson, it is now part of the nightmare’s full time program (its “on the board” as we say in our house) and yes in 11 more weeks i will be glad to update everyone.

clemson

so would you suggest changing the program after a certain time period? meaning from micro to pnf?

clemson

good points, thanks for your help and i’ll keep them in mind as i wander the path. and of course, keeping all up to date.
