how carefull does one have to be of the immune system during the SPP? And what are some good ways of keeping the immune system healthy and free of diseases?
seems the more i open up on the track, the more my immune system is not liking it. the faster i go, the faster i get a lowered immune system.
are you judging your immune function by getting sick? i would look at two things, first your diet and second the possiblity that the load imposed is too great ie overtraining but this also relates back to diet. tell us what your diet looks like.
two protein shakes per day (no milk is added)
1-2 fruit per day
lean chicken or fish
mulitgran bread
3-4 veg at night - might start increasing types, spring has started so better selection of fresh fruit n veg should be available
1-2 coffie per day (that wont be cut, but little suger is used)
3 weekbix and milk
ham
cheese
cashews
1 x muslie bar
a small treat like ice cream or chocalate, small amount.
thats all i can think off at moment.
generally diet is the same as has been, but as things have gotton faster, immune is suffering. i wouldnt say things are harder, just faster.
have been slack on the egg whites, need to get back into them.
need more variety of veg and fruit. (right time of yr to get into them now)
What about adding some ‘good’ fats like fish oil and linseed?
Try adding fruit to your shakes.
What has your bodyweight been like?
You were sleeping poorly has that improved?
Could be overtrained.
yeah, good fats are a good idea.
i normally add bananas to shakes, but too expensive at the moment. Dont know about the tast of other fruit??
bodyweight has slowly (on purpose) been going down. Perhaps i have cut too much Carbs from diet? i know the other day a Pasta and Tuna lunch was a welcome addition. Have lost about 6-7kg (only fat) in the last 4mnths.
Sleep has got back to normal.
i was actually thinking before, this week i have been doing studies like a mad man. Many hrs per day, looking after kids while on school holidays and trying to keep house clean while Wife works. Monday is back to school day, yippee. Now i wont have to find them something to do every 1.5hrs while i am studying. Perhaps i have stressed myself out a bit much this week?
Mental stress? i have never suffered from before, i have never studyied like i am now. If its stressing me out, i dont really know, for i dont know the symptoms of mental stress?? Perhaps i do now?
like james said nutrition and not being overtrained are key. But dont forget to get a good night sleep. If you are not recovering from each day, you will suffer big time.
you need a lot more vegetables in your diet a good rule of thumb for each portion of protein consume 3 portions of veggies. your plate should look like 1/4 protein and 3/4 veggies.
Obviously it depends on personal preference but try pears, apples, kiwfruit, any and all berries.
6-7 kg in 4 months is a lot in anyones books.
Don’t discount the effect of the study and house husbandry just like plyo’s they are sneaky draining .
Sleeeeeep ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz … Good balanced diet, well-designed traning program and throw in a Multi-Vitamin.
your right, i have been off the vitamins! i dont know why either? i got back into some multi vit, and some garlic tabs yesterday. noramally take like bromaline, calcium as a mininium. In summer i take colideral minerals as you sweat in the shade here. Goto get into the habit of vitamins again.
More veg / varied
more egg white
keep the sleep going good
and tomorrow, the kids are back at school…
I don’t think Multi’s are the exact answer - but they help cover the bases IMO - especially if only a small amount is missing.
Garlic IMO is also a great herb/food.
Some evenings that I would have a tingle in my throat and feel a sore throat coming on I would swallow a clove or 2 whole that night before bed … magic gone.
Can’t beat a good variety of Veg.
oh yeh - you could always sell the kids!
Acupuncture or microcurrent, can boost up your immune system.
But if It goes down every time you can have a stress problem (make blood analysis).
try some raw garlic and L-Glutamine
Gluten can have negative effects on the immune system even if you don’t have celiac disease. Try going gluten-free for a while and see how that treats you.
yea ive heard something like 75% of people have an unknown food allergy. gluten free bread taste like your eating a brick but some like it.
thats the funniest thing i have seen all day!!
LOL @ the brick thing, yes thats true. only way to make it taste good is to cook it on a pan with lots of olive oil.
I would say first, sleep LOTS like 9 hours. If you dont start feeling better then think more about your diet. Do you get the shits a lot? Bloating? I think the optimal diet for humans should contain very little grains as a source of carbs. Best source of carbs are fruit and vegetables. Keep it simple, minimise the processed crap.
Also stuff like echniacea (sp?) and glutamine should help you out.
Is your life stressful @ the moment? Do you drink often? Do you consume a lot of sugars? All of those will reduce your immune system function.
Oh I also hear that having sex regularly 2-3 times a week boosts your immune system by 30% or something because your body makes more of a certain type of antibodies
I got 10hrs last night, and I feel heaps better, I think 8hrs is just not cutting it.
Have been getting more into the vitamins and herbs, that’s been helping.
Have been getting more carbs too, defiantly more energy.
Is my life stressful, I have started studying for the 1st time in 10yrs! Am doing anatomy and physiology at the moment, for the last month, coinciding with higher levels of stress…
Agree with advice been given, it did look like your carbs were low, make sure you get enough vitamin c. Pleased things are improving, don’t be scared to take a day off or have an extra recovery day, it can work wonders. Try gluten free pasta for extra carbs , my wife has a wheat allergy.
