EMS UNITS Charlie, Others!?

is it okay to reduce the contraction time to 9seconds and relaxation to 45seconds, because the machine im considerin only allows for a 45 second rest feature.

I have the 4000R model in your link and it is a very good machine. Extremely powerful. I only turn it up to a 4(on a scale of 10) and it gives an intense contraction. There are many things you can do to manipulate the contract relax times. You can switch modes or adjust the length of contraction to 0 seconds to get a longer relaxation. Thumbs up on that machine.

Hey Guys,
I have a few questions:

  1. Charlie said that when exercising a muscle with EMS, we should not do the antagonists at the same time. Why is that?

  2. Would it be okay to do abs, side obliques, AND back extensors at the same time?
Or … Hams, glutes, back extensors?

Cause when a muscle is activated, it’s antagonist is activated as well which restricts the ability of the muscle to protect it from injury. If you do the muscle with it’s antagonist thats counter productive.

p.s: pm me with your msn.

Thanks, R3N3GAD3.

Now… a new question…
How important is relaxation time? I am wondering because I am thinking of buying 4000R model or the TDR-64 Model. Charlie said we should use the 50 second relaxation time. The 4000R model goes up to 45 sec relaxation time. The TDR-64 goes way higher… up to 95 second relaxation time.

If the 50 sec relaxation time is really that important, would making the ramp time in the 4000R model 3 seconds compensate for the 45 second relaxation time? (45second relaxation time + 3seconds ramp up time = about 48 seconds of relaxation?.. close enough to 50 haha! )

Other notes:
The TDR-64 costs ~$70 more. It is rechargeable, it could go up to 200Hz, unlike the 4000R, which isn’t rechargeable and only goes up to 140 Hz.

The 4000R, however, is sold with extras: a 2 oz. vital gel and extra padding.

Also… what the HELL IS PULSE WIDTH? Does that make a difference?
4000R Pulse Width: 200 ms.
TDR-64 Pulse Width: 160 ms.

TDR-64:

If you only had to choose between the two, which one would it be and why?

For any investment you have to consider the following:

How far in the future will I need to upgrade? If it’s close…buy the more expensive model. Always. You’ll save yourself a lot of stress that way. (unless of course new technology is being developed…but for instance a 2.5ghz laptop over a 3.2ghz…etc)

Edit: Just took a look. My opinion? Your already paying over 200 dollars…buy the more expensive unit. You can’t vary pulse widths (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-width_modulation) on either machine and the more expensive version has a lot higher ability to vary the relax/contraction times. You might as well.

Thanks, R3N3GAD3… You’ve been really helpful.

R3N3GAD3, what do you think of the Russian stim (2500Hz) option? Do you think it is better than the normal EMS setting? Or do you think it is hyped? Right now, I think I value having more pads/more channels. I want an 8 channel one, so I could save time next school year (I think I’ll be hammered with work as a Junior!)

So here’s the models I’m considering right now:
An EMS Model with 8 channels ($599):

An EMS/Russian Model: TDR-68 ($699):

To be completely honest man, I’m not too familiar with Russian Stim. All the EMS units I’ve seen have been your basic run of the mill personal/clinic styles. A quick google’ing though and I’ve found a few negative results which when you google EMS, you dont find. For instance:

http://www.chiroweb.com/archives/12/19/18.html

So, do some research (I’m too lazy :P) but if you REALLY want the Russian Stim you could invest in the $699 one. Both of thse have TENS though as far as I can tell…might want to email before you buy to make sure on the 599… (very nice feature) …and the only other advantage of the more expensive one is safety features. As long as your not being dumb with it and your careful (you don’t drive a car without gas - doesn’t take that much intelligence to know that. Same deal), I think you should be ok with the 599 unit. A ton of money but you want the 8 pads so well worth it in the long run! I can tell you my $80.00CAD EMS 7500 unit does wonders for my calves but hell if I put that thing anywhere else on my body. It’d take a year just to get done one muscle group - only 2 pads!

lol 2 PADS!?

HMMM… =)

Ok… after reading the text in the link you found, I have decided to just screw the Russian stim. =)

Hmmm. I think I have reached a final decision. I am gonna buy the 4000 Model. The only thing I am really interested in is strengthening the hamstrings, which are lagging behind the rest of my prime movers in the sprint. It is dirt cheap compared to the others, and I don’t have to keep buying batteries, since it can be plugged into an adaptor. The only thing I’ll have to do is to be patient with them. Prioritize the hams, then do the glutes, quads, and back, etc. I’m gonna save like 200 bux, which I can use to buy me some good food/supplements/gifts for others, etc. I think it’s perfect! =)

Well, 2 outputs. 4 pads

Good stuff man - that looks like a solid machine. Don’t rely too much on it for strengthening the hams though. Straight legged deadlifts, etc…there’s lots of better ways to do that. the machine will def help you be in tip top shape for all your workouts though and sinec your using it at school you’ll be done a session in no time at all.

Sorry I didn’t PM you back btw, been real busy. I’ll drop you a line in the next couple days.

I recomend the NeuroTrack Sport which will meet all the specifications you need.

If you are in Canada you can purchase it from Health Care and Rehab Specialties http://www.healthcareandrehab.com/

or try Pinnacle Health Products for the NeuroTrack Sport as well. A great unit, for a great price. If you flip back a few pages you can find my previous comments on it when i bought it last year!

good luck

Thanks Smarrs and Nap.

I have tried the Pinnacle Health Products but I have not been able to register successfully. Therefore I couldn’t see the price.

The other link for Canada does not ship to US.

Should I check out the UK link? If I order there, would the shipping be much higher than buying in the US?

Thanks!
