What does everyone do when they feel liek they are getting sick or they are sick? When i am tlaking about sick i mean sore throat, congested, basically a head cold.
Do you lower your intensity or cut down your volume or both? Which would make more sense and be more beneficial?
If I feel like it is a 24hour bug, I usually go through it, but if it isnt, then I cut back a bit on intensity, so not to tear down the immune system anymore.
I take a break until the symptoms go away. Possibly a few light workouts when starting back up. Normally I feel that I don’t just get sick for no reason. It is a signal of overdoing it for me. I tried training through it, continuing light workouts until better but found that the illness lasted longer and couldn’t find a benifit to light workouts since they do not improve my strengths only slowing the downward effect of the lack of training.
antioxidants up. I take ecchinacea. Reast more and cut bak on duration and intensity of training.
Ideal - What are the benefits of ecchinacea
I’d take a day off or two. All I would do during those days would stretch or do yoga.It depends on how bad the symptoms are though. If the symptoms are minor and not to bad you can prolly continue training, cuting down volume based on how you feel. But if you feel really sick I would do nothing for a couple of days except lay down and relax.
for me a sore throat indicates the start of a bad cold.cut back immediatly.your cns will be sapped due to the fact that your immune system is fighting to combat the infection.training while in this state will enhance the infection and hamper your chance of recovering the illness
i train through the sickness. not sure if this is the proper thing to do though. i don’t want to get in a routine of cutting a workout slightly or not doing it at all. the cns issue is something that i never considered though. i would like to get some feed back from one of the seniors on this one.
i’m not a senior here but you had to over-come the illness and still you are training like before.something will have to suffer, you may think you are at full strenght but keep it going and you’ll find out
x - man,
your probably correct. thats why i said i’m not sure if you should train through it or not. i’m guessing that you should do something, but perhaps low intensity.
mj,i would have rested for minimum 3 days.it would have done you the world of good and you’d propably feel great with the additional rest
I swear by restricting calories and fasting…the demands of digestion competes with fighting illness. I suggest having light meals and simple soups.
but wouldnt that cause you to lose weight? muscle perhaps?
I experimented with ecchinacea to see how it affected me when feeling a bit under the weather. It cuts my recuperation in 2. I have a very strong immune system. Rarely get sick and am generally sleep deprived. Some may think I am nuts but it works for me.
how much ecchinacea and in what form?
Cut back training - volume and intensity.
Look at why this has happened. System probably is slightly down - Why?
Extra stress - physically, mentally.
Clemson - said fast. Never tried it. But chicken soup would be good. Doesn’t hurt.
When I feel crap - I use Coenyzme Q10 don’t know if it helps but I feel better.
how much q10? reason i am asking this is because i work at a vitamin store.
Not sure
Generally one or two caps. I will have to look it up for you.
I really just think it is a matter of preventing yourself getting run down.
