Use of Cupping for Athletes

Cupping is a form of massage, involving suction cups. Traditionally used by chinese medicine, and now some massage therapists. Supposedly promotes healing, circulation, Reduction of scar tissue and loosens fascia.

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with using them or knew of anyone getting good results with them??

Cheers KB

I’ve used cupping on trigger points and along spinal column for years, with good results, good form of therapy, but imo, it’s not so good for scars.
Scar tissue have to be worked with other techniques and then you can use cupping for promoting drainage.
Cupping massage where you use oil and cup and go up and down along the column is much effective.

I have had cupping used for scar tissue in the past, and with good results. in fact, I’m planning to have a treatment done sometime this week, if I can. not just leaving the cups on the muscle (hamstring), though. the guy slides the cup up and down the muscle.

I’m not too sure about how it all works, to be honest. I was trying to find some information about it online just today. all I know is, it seemed to work quite well for me in the past…

i use cupping alot in my clinic.
the slide cupping as well as promoting blood flow, also releases tension in the fascia, the stuff that surrounds all your muslces.

ive found it usful in smoothening out adhesions in hamstrings (with slide cups) and very good with chronic back pain (stationary cups)
