Interesting videos, however that video quality was terrible lol.
Thanks Silencer, I liked the vids of Chambers, especially the box jump. However I don’t see the point in trying to do jump squats with that much weight on your back. Kind of defeats the purpose.
No question that he is very strong and explosive; however, the height of that box jump performance is misleading.
When using an approach run you’ll see performances go through the roof. By comparison, when I coached at the high school level I had multiple athletes that were in the mid to upper 50in range when using an approach run.
More than the height of the box, what’s impressive to me is the relative ease at which he makes the jump and how (when you pause the video just right) you can see that his knees are only flexed to just past 90 degrees when his feet land on the box.
I’d be interested to know what he records in the VJ and SLJ.
And that’s not even half of it. You have to go local races around here…to see all the Crystal Palace backpacks. Christine Ohuruogu ran 2 100m races last weekend, and I expect to see her again a week from Sunday Tyrone Edgar won the 100m at Mt Sac and Christian Malcolm won the 100m at Cerritos on the same day.
Ohuruogu was here last year and Tasha Damvers (with HSI) also got a medal in Beijing, and they’ve got a lot more company this year.
So when does California get into the Commonwealth Games??
What about the other way around : sprint performances are necessary to be able to jump like that. But yes, the guys usually love this game because of the showboat thing…
The squat and deadlift not really impressive, we will be doing heavier than that tomorrow lol as for the box jump! Its against a wall so he has momentum on his side as the box biot gonna shift. As long as he hits with speed and gets his legs high enough he will make the jump. So its really only a flexibility issue
These exercises really don’t tell you much about how they can perform on the track.
Reminds me of the time at Stanford when Dave the trainer walked into the training room and saw a bunch of football players using a tape measure on their biceps. He yelled: “Get the hell out of here! The only thing that counts you can measure with a ruler!”
The stopwatch is the ruler in this case.
