BUMP - reposting this charlie
Charlie in this and many other threads you have mentioned for college or junior developing athletes, it would be extremely unlikely that they could ever perform reps at such a level to justify these (full) recoveries.
with that in mind who long is long enough?
below is 3 varying athletes, ages and times all doing the same session. what would the likely recovery be for each different athlete.
Session = 3 x 30m then 80 / 100 / 120
Athlete 1, 15 yr old female pb 12.54
Athlete 2, 17 yr old male pb 11.00
Athlete 3, mid 20’s male around 10.30-10.40.
good question, i would also like to kow your response CF.
also with only doing 2 speed session per week, and one of them been speed endurance, what you do for the other session;
-special endurance
or
-speed
considering for us its now SPP2
BUMP
TC or CF???
anyone have thoughts on this
Session = 3 x 30m then 80 / 100 / 120
Athlete 1, 15 yr old female pb 12.54 3min for 30m and walk a lap between the longer efforts.
Athlete 2, 17 yr old male pb 11.00 similiar to above, perhaps two laps between 100 and 120
Athlete 3, mid 20’s male around 10.30-10.40.
as per chalies recovery time.
Athlete 1: 2 min between 30s, 5 min to 80, 8min to 100, 10 to 12min to 120.
athlete 2: 3min between 30s, 6min to 80, 10min to 100, 12 to 15min to 120.
these are all guestimates, as individuals differ and long breaks require good weather conditions to maintain muscle readiness.
Athlete 3: As described in CFTS
so i wasnt too far off, 1 lap taking approx 5-6min to wonder around, then stuffing around getting reading to go again, 1-2 min.
Yes, one lap can vary from 4 1/2 to 6min depending on how much stalling and retying of shoes takes place.
was close the the mark with what i was doing with some of my developing athletes,
30m = 3 mins rest than basically working on the idea of 1min for every 10m ran, dependant on season/weather etc.
could the same ideas apply to the longer reps say 2 x 250 for example in developing athletes.
Probably but you need to decide what rest to use between the short prep work and the first SE rep. Again very weather dependant
Could I just ask… Why do you/they have only a certain time to train ?
SeanJos
hey sean,basically they have to work. its very hard to be a full time track and field athlete in australia, and probably everywhere for that matter. i will probably has to increase my work hours aswell, so im aslo looking into this for myself aswell as other athletes.
as for me, last season i set aside 4 hours a dat for training and 4 hours for work.
now ill have to increase my work to 6 hours a day, which only gives me around 2-2.5hours to train.
last yr was the end of 12hr days for me. + travel to work.
Doing study now, so i can train when i want.
where should i fit something like the 20e 20f 20e drill in???
on the speed end session, eg 80 100 120
or
the special end session eg 2X200
thanks
