How do you guys test the shuttle, because I know some schools only make you touch the line with your foot. We had guys at my jc running sub 4’s using that method (they also had 40’s in the 4.6-4.2 range), but you’re supposed to touch the line with your hand.
Was there always a consistent timer? How many timers? Alot of variables come into handtiming.
With the shuttle, we touched the line, or at least I did(my previous best was 4.36). We pretty much got into a 2pt stance facing the direction we were taking off. The coaches were real consistent with the shuttle times though.
I was timed by 2 different timers in the 40. It was some pretty bad grass we were running on. The last time I tested my 40 was when I ran a 4.59 on a slow track w/ spikes about a week ago.
Ran the 4x1, handoffs were terrible 100m-11.36ht
Ran the 4x2, handoff were about the same
During the 100m, I had everybody beat in the first 30-40m. Then I guess they had better top speed than I did. I guess an 11.36 isn’t a bad time to start the season out with. My goal is to get it down to the 11.1x range by the end of the season if thats possible.
Hahahaha. Keep in mind that these aren’t my workouts, this is what I have to run to be on the track team. Depending on what the coach has me run this week will determine if I will keep running track or not. The coach clearly hates me. Why? I don’t know.
If I told you why the coaches hate me, you wouldn’t understand. I don’t really question the coaches at all. They make no sense period. Im clearly the biggest, fastest, and strongest skill guy we have, but they don’t plan on having me play any offense next year for some stupid reason. That’s why I stay away from them as much as I can during the summer. Also what would make you think I would have a chance at a 40" vert? Im in HS!

Easy day today. This week, Instead of running the 4x2, I am running the open 200m. I can’t wait to run!
Track Workout
Sprints in the Hallway(too cold outside)
Morning Lower body Workout
Afternoon workout
Med Ball throws-30 total throws with 6 different variations.
Box Squat-215x6, 235x8, 275x8, 315x8
Incline-125x6, 140x6, 155x6, 185x4 w/ 4 forced reps
Deadlift-I felt something bad on my first set. I must have picked it up wrong or something.
At this track meet, I will be in the 1st heat in the 100m, and I’m probably going to get smoked. I am in the 2nd leg in the 4x1. Then in the 200m, this will be my first time to time it. I have no clue what I will run. I’m hoping Sub 23.
I don’t really understand why they make us do a heavy weight workout the day before a meet. I’ll just have to deal with it. I asked our Defensive Coordinator today if I could make the transition from LB to DB. “NO.” Why would they have me, at 5’9, 170lbs at LB? Makes no sense.
Ran terrible times
100m-11.5? Ran 11.3 last time. Still managed to get 2nd Place
200m-24.2?
4x100M-44s
I was drained and worn out before the meet even started. What was the purpose of killing us the day before the meet? The whole team was basically drained too and worn out too. I even told the coach that I would have ran better if I was “fresh.” He says “yeah… I guess so…”
I was glad we had the team meeting before the period. We got a chance to discuss some issues about the off-season. They will not have us squat heavy the day before the meet anymore. I was glad that was fixed.
Man I ran a 11.8 today. Could ahve and probably was faster then that. They timed reatrded, a bunch of soccer moms out there timing. Instead of seeing who finishes first they just compares everyone’s times. I ran a 24.4 though in the 200m ended up 4th by clock but 3rd by finish.
It’s pretty much the same at my meets. They may use the standard hand time conversion(.24). I’m not sure. We are about the same in the 40yds (4.5-4.6). So I’m sure you could run faster than that. You may have to work on your general fitness more. I see that you have been doing plenty of speed/power work in your journal.
Bad news… At the last meet as I crossed through the finish line, my spike somehow got stuck to the track and I slipped and caught myself. I pulled my quad doing it. The bad thing about it is that it hurts only when I am running at top speed.
During the period
Matt Drills
Jump ropes
Bungee cords
Bag drills
We have a meet on thursday. I’m hoping to run in it. What sucks is that I have no access to an EMS at this time, my school doesn’t even have one.
