Training to Enter the Next Level.

Ya, Im going to be a junior this upcoming season. I hope to probably put on about 5 more lbs and keep working on getting faster and getting into great football shape because I might be playing receiver and rover next year.

I think you could afford to put some more weight on, you’re only 160. If you’re gonna be playing rover, it would proabably be best if you added some more lbs on.

Ya, but I dont want to get any slower. And most of my playing time will be at slot receiver. I also really need to work on my lateral quickness and agility. My route running is good right now, and my hands are still getting better.

Dude you aren’t gonna get any slower if you gained 10-12 lbs. Trust me. We’re talking about football speed here, not linear track speed where maybe you would want to stay below 170. You’re gonna want all the muscle/weight you can get playing varsity receiver. It’s a little bit different from when you were a soph! All of it will come together (lateral quickness, routes, etc).

I agree. I have a friend who plays university football, wide receiver, hes 195lbs (going into 3rd year) and he has the fastest 40m on the team. Its pretty impressive! He has a great strength and conditioning/sprint coach, and he puts a lot of effort into it, I think you can do the same!

That’s my goal, is to play college football. Thanks for the encouragement. It will be very tough to find a good S&C coach in college I bet. But Regardless of the coach, I will still find ways to make good improvements.

Look into the programs you’re interested in. Do the research about the S&C programs along with the actual football staff, etc.

Monday:

DB Incline:4x15
DB Rows:4x15
Chest Fly Machine:4x15
Reverse Fly Machine:4x15
Lat Pulldown:4x15
Hyperextentions:2x15
Pushups:3x15

Conditioning:
2x300yd shuttles, 2min 30sec rest
2x200yd shuttles, 1min, 30sec rest
4x100yds, 45sec rest

This was week 2 in the Dallas Cowboys conditioning program. I made all the required times that the program provided. I was more proud of that than getting a better 40 at the combine. Im just glad to be in better shape than I was the first time I did this workout which I almost died. I just have to keep this up. And we are doing more high rep sets because we are working on getting better size than 160. Im through working to get a better 40 this summer and trying to meet more of my needs on the field.

Just saw this. What kind of combine was this? Thats some pretty solid numers for rising junior. I hope I run at least that time laser at my combine in July.

It was a national Underclassmen Combine. Only for Freshman and Sophomores. I dont think they have one close to where you live. Ill have to find some more combines to go to next year when I am a Junior. Good luck at your combine.

Tuesday:

Conditioning:

4x Sprint 50yds, walk 50yds, Sprint 50yds, walk 50yds, Sprint 100yds, rest 2min30sec.
2x Stadium Runs

Short day today no lifting. Went well again today, I made all my times easily and I didnt feel tired at all. I can finally tell that I am making gains in my conditioning.
I also plan on consuming 3000 calories per day until I can reach 165-170lbs. Then I will have to maintain it from there.

Wednesday:

Weights:
8x shoulder pressesx15, Hammer Curlsx15, Dipsx15. 1min recovery imbetween sets

Conditioning:
14x 30yd Hill sprints, walkback recovery
8x 40yds, 30sec rest

I had to run 2 extra hill sprints because I didnt go hard on those. “All-Americans always Finish Strong and Sprint hard on every one.” he says, which he knows what it is like to be there so he challenged me to do better. I was able to run with better form with tired arms though. But we are just doing the high reps because its just getting me adapted to his program better, and I feel like I am in great shape now. We will start doing more reps with power. I also saw ex Nebraska QB Tom Frazier there today who won the national championship with the Cornhuskers in 96 I think.

Have you ever seen clips of Tom Frazier when he played at Nebraska? Holy hell, I would not want to be playing D when he chose to run the ball! I think I’ve seen two or three different “Top 10” best college football plays ever and he is always in the top 2 or 3 with that run he had where he ran over basically the entire defense!! I forget which team it was though…

Ya, I have seen highlights of him. He had a belly on him, and you could tell that he has been away from the game for a while. You will see retired NFL or other proffesional athletes in Baylor’s weightroom every once in a while. Last year I saw Jeremy Wariner and Darold Williamson about once or twice. Ive seen them workout as well.

…Florida.

that was a great game.

Thank you! I could picture the game and everything and that play even, just drew a blank on the team.

What a friggin play by Frazier. Classic college football right there!

Friday:

Lowerbody:
4x 15 squats(185lbs), 15 Leg Curls, 15 Leg extentions, 15 calf raises. 1min30sec rest imbetween each set.

Conditioning:
15x20sec intervals on treadmill. 9mph

I cant workout on Thursday’s during the summer. This workout was hard. We havent had a lowerbody workout yet so this was the first one. Here is an article about my trainer on rivals.com. http://rivals100.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=680849

Monday:

DB Bench:4x15
Lat Pulldowns:6x15
Pushups:4x20
Hyperextentions:2x15
Chest/Reverse Fly Superset:4x15
DB Rows:2x15

Conditioning:

3x300yd shuttle, 2:30
3x200yd shuttle, 1:30
3x100yd strides, :45

Abs, 350
Weight:160

This workout was hard today. Those shuttles killed me and it was the running the 200yd shuttles after the 3x300yd shuttles that was hard. Im am going to eat so much today, hopefully get up to 5000 calories.

What’s up with all the high reps?
