Here is something interesting i have only just noticed about training on grass tracks that are not very smooth or have say pot holes or tuffs of grass at places. Last week we done a 280m effort, digitally cameraed and timed every 20m interval for the 1st 160m. Because of the digital camera we can time each 20m interval to within 0.01of a sec. My times are, 0-20m 2.90sec, 20-40m 2.09sec, 40-60m 2.08, 60-80m 2.86, 80-100m 2.03, 100-120m 2.89, 120-140 2.14sec, 140-160m 2.89sec. Now, when slow motion the camera on the slower 20m sections, you can see exactally where you slow right up, the foot hits the ground and the whole leg basicaly colapeses underneath, no tripple extension, no double extension or even single extension. And it takes about 4-5 strides to get back to tripple extension again. Hense forth, i will never do a time trial on grass without my trusty camcorder again. If you rid the slow times and reaverage them back to normal, = not a bad time. And, the effort that is required to respeed back up from slowing down over the bad patches must be also great too. If only a Tartan track was closser than 500k’s away!! Dam these small towns where track is basically non-existant and their dried out crap tracks are there is to run on.
