Hi all, im 25 so pretty old for a beginner but have been playing soccer for years and have a reasonable level of fitness. However I have recently taken a keen interest in sprint work when I joined a work colleague in a workout down the track. I ran 11.5 secs, this I understand is fair but can anybody recommend a weekly workout for me? how often I should train etc…I appreciate any replies:sing:
11.5 in spikes or flats?
purchase the cfts ebook and I think people will help.
where can I purchase this book?? Im in ireland
flats, thats another question, any recommendations for a good pair of running shoes?
good man richie and welcome.how much time per day have you got and how serious do you want to take the sport.are you going to compete or train to get fast + keep fit.either way you can train, get fast and get healthy.
the CFTS is a good read but try to get your hands on a paper back copy.anyway there is a whole load of advice here and by using the threads you can see what other poeple are doing.
i’d stick with japanese flats, good quality-asics,mizuno… nike aren’t that good and expensive, good for posing under denims
I agree that it is good that you are a beginner and you know exactly where to go. there is a ton of great information on this forum for you to grab and use. 11.5 in flats is pretty good. I would say that it is important to know what direction you want to go with this. are you wanting to be a faster soccer player or are you planning on competing on the track? Looking for a good running shoe is sometimes difficult because of the many types of feet and pronation, either over or under pronator. if there is a running store I would go in and ask them for a shoe fit, not what size shoe but what type you can wear. stability, motion control, or coushin/air. New balance has a good supply of all types, also asics are good. I wish you luck in your new found interest and I hope that we can help you out.

Mizuno or Asics
Richie, follow the advice of shab. If you go into some of these ‘sports’ stores and ask for a pair of runners, then the likelihood is that u’ll get a blank look and they’ll point you in the direction of the most expensive pair because it suits their commission! Find yourself a proper running shop and they’ll sort you out…
Rob - anyone would think you work in retail :D:P
thanks everyone, some great advice there, ive ordered a pair of asics runners.
I plan to hopefully break 11 secs and try and find a local running club to join. I go to the gym in the morning before work and usually have soccer after work. If my running improves then I will gladly pursue this!! have to admit, im looking forward to seeing what i can achieve.
