Topical anti-inflammatory ASAP!

Years ago when I traveled in Europe I came across a topical anti-inflamatory in Germany that worked miraculously on a sprained ankle. It was a yellow and white tube with black print made in Germany. I can’t recall the name of the company or even what the medicine was. It may have been ibuprofen

The sense of urgency is I have a NFL’er in Scotland with a first degree plus seperated AC joint and the medical staff seems to be rather lazy or in the dark ages. With two games to go he is playing very well and wants to give it a go, but on the other hand doesn’t want to ge hurt coming into camp.

I’m trying to get him some help across the Atlantic from our European counter-parts or anyone that has traveled throughout Eastern Europe or the United Kingdom. This medicine worked very well and it may be, along with therapy, what he needs to get back in the action. Thanks.

It could be Traumeel, made by the Heel company in Germany. Try www.heel.com.

It was probably a cream called Tanderil, which, I believe, is not made any more. There is a Voltarin cream available, which may work as well, which I’d mix with Traumeel cream, a homeopathic prep which I’ve found works very well.

Voltarin! Thats it!

Thanks Charlie.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…Charlie Francis you are a genius! Heh Charlie you thought about having your own chat show? It would be a winner! Give Letterman a run for his money!!

Anyone know if Voltarin and Traumeel are available in a Scotland pharmacy?
A prescription is needed for the Voltarin, correct? I remember purchasing Voltarin at a small Germany pharmacy without a perscription. I guess in those mom and pop shops anything goes, within reason of course.

I’ve got the runners- but he’s got the money!

It depends on the country I guess. Voltaren gel (diclofenac sodium 10mg/g) used to be prescription only in Australia, until a couple of years ago it was put onto the pharmacy shelves. There are also other generic brands containing the active ingredient I think.

Here in Canada, a company in Toronto has made a topical NSAIDS called Pennsaid (made of diclofenac) which I have given to my athletes to use for various aches and sprains. I have had good results with it.

Which Company? Is it available in pharmacies? Is it OTC or do you need a Rx for it? Thanks.

in the uk its called voltorol p, available otc

Voltarol Emugel P
Dicofenac diethylammonium

Manufactured by Novartis

Here in Ireland it was only made OTC 2 months ago.

sorry about the spelling!

Its been available OTC here for over a year ‘cos I get it sooooooo often, still need a prescipt’ for the tablets though

You may need a prescription for it. Unfortunately my knowledge about it is limited, because I have just received tons of samples from the drug rep!

My athlete picked it up the other day. Three tackles and a sack on Friday night. Thanks for all the help.

What exactly is contained in these products?

In Voltarol (by Novartis) the active ingredient is ‘Dicofenac diethylammonium’

I can get the full list for you tomorrow if you like?

I’m most interested in the transdermal carrier - most of them are about worthless.

Some of the carriers have anti-inflam properties themselves, notably DMSO and methylsalysalate (sp?)
