As a sprinter I believe it is necessary to have a drive phase, but I really dont know how to execute it. Can somebody tell me what they believe the correct way is?
Like, can you tell me what you have to do between each 10 meters. Breathing also would help…
I dont really know how to ask, lol, sorry.
Just, can a few people tell me how to get the drive phase throughout the entire race correct?
There are some threads on this already in the sprints section. In summary though, it isn’t a good idea to force your head down, which is what most “drive phase” proponents do.
yes, but it has to remain “natural”, forcing your body to keep the head down over 200m wont make you run faster.
I think it isn’t good to force yourself to stay longer in some phase (unless you get upright from the starting blocks). I think it’s for everyone different. You do what you feel is natural to do, splitting up your race (especially in meets) wont do you good. You can’t run and think, ok now I have to do my drive phase, now I need to come up, … Only thing that works for me is at the end of the race when I force myself to do a proper arm-action.
You should only train on this when you feel you come up directly or come up too fast.
The feeling should be lifting your body gradually and slightly until it is straight.
You start low, looking at the ground and then will naturally be raised but the aim of the drive phase is to have this happen over a period of about 30 meters.
The aim of the drive phase is that by pushing and using your quads for the beginning of the race you can save your hamstrings for the end of the race therefore allowing you to finish stronger. It also delays top speed so you don’t hit it too soon and end up decelerating too early.
after watching a few HSI videos of Mo and Ato, I think I have it down…
I explode from my blocks, swing my arms in a correct manner(Back and forth) bring legs up to chest in a strong motion. Keep body slanted or leaned foward until about 30-40 meters. After that hit the next phase of the race???
Mo and Ato are very strong athletes. Thats why they can hold their accelration position for 30m. The best thing to do is to run fast, relaxed and with in your current abilities. I’ve been finding out the hard way that, most technique problems can be fixed with general conditioning and overall stregnth improvement. Do you have the GPP DVD that’s available on this site? It’s great for building up your acceleration mechanics. Also check out the Medecine ball video that is available for download. The medball DVD will get you in shape in a hurry
If you search before making new threads, you will usually get more info from the past (usually from Charlie and other intelligent guys) that will cover everything you need.
