Been running tempo alot lately on grass barefoot, but it’s summer over here and the grass/dirt has been getting quite hard and dry. Seem to be developing a little tenderness in my ankles from the impact, is it ok to do this in shoes? or perhaps alternate between shoes and no shoes to give my joints a break?
It is fine to do in shoes. However I’d say drop the volume and do not do anything that aggrevates the pain. ALso make sure you are icing after every session and you may want to even do some ankle rehab exersises to make the area stronger as well as toe/calve raises.
You may even want to hit the pool for tempo work half the time to give the ankles etc. a rest.
