Supplement other than Difene

I have colleague who has been complaining about what sounds like a tendon problem at the top of his hamstring under his glutes.
He has been taking Difene the anti-inflam before and after training to ease the pain or soreness.
He has a few big games coming up and isn’t willing to rest.
Friction and massage offer some relief, but I would imagine rest would be advised here also.
Has anyone else out there any familiarity with this type of complaint?
Can something other than Difene be used?
Would MSM act on it eventually?
DMSO? or Traumeel?
