I’m having difficulty organizing my weight training in my plan. My first question is when should the max strength phase start(beginning of SPP when acceleration development is the focus, or beginning of Pre-Comp when max-velocity is focus)? How many max strength phases will there be throughout the year in a triple periodization plan? If the accumulation phase is right before the max strength phase then what type of reps, sets, % intensity would be used for the acc phase? Sorry for all the questions, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Would a new max-strength phase be done after the first 2 peaks? If so would it be a full 3-1-3 cycle or maybe just a 3-1?Would a new accumulation phase also be necessary before the max-strength phase? Charlie, clemson, dcw… ?
Ok, well here’s my take on it. The accumulation phase of lifting would be done in the GPP with higher reps(8-15) to prepare the body for peak athletic performance by developing heavy myosin chains and possibly strengthening connective tissues. If necessary a hypertrophy phase would be done directly after the accumulation phase and would mark the beginning of the SPP and if was necesarry would extend the duration of the SPP(so Accum=GPP, Hyper(if necessary)=SPP ). After the hypertrophy phase, the maximum strength phase would be entered(the typical 3-1-3 scheme) to complement the development of acceleration during SPP. When the max strength phase has ended then the SPP ends and Pre-Comp begins where the focus shifts from acc dev to max velocity and maintenance weights are used from then until the end of the first comp phase to allow for intensification of the sprints. After the 1st comp phase and the subsequent recovery wk the 2nd pre-comp is entered. At this point would another, maybe shorter(3-1 scheme) max-strength phase be done or would maintenance weights continue to be used? Are the other componants of training(intensification of sprints) enhancing and further developing strength enough to just use maintenance weights for the remainder of the season . Thoughts? Am I right, or even close? I think I may have answered my own questions but reinforcement from the heavy hitters would be great to relieve my conscience. Very sorry, but 1 last question and I’ll go away, what’s the difference b/w the rep/set/intensity scheme of accumulation weights and hypertrophy weights? Thank you very much for your time!
Don’t forget that Accumulation does not have to mean high reps. Accumulation can be accomplished with multiple sets of low reps with a constant weight, i.e. 5 x 5 with the same weight.
Am I not even close? I really need some help on this.
The beginning of the max-strenght phase should coincide with the beginning of the SPP. I think the general concensus is that a hypertrophy-phase, when needed should come as a separate phase between GPP and SPP.
After you are done with your competition-phase and your week off you would repeat the cycle over, but of course in a 3-peak scheme each phase gets shorter for every new cycle. One of the reasons for maintaining weights all thru competition is to minimize the need for a new accumulation/GPP phase.
Anyway, that is my understanding of it.
Thor, thank you VERY much!!!
