Strength Endurance in Short to Long

yes u r right, i was only able to start at 3x60m this fall but others couldnt even go 40m

charlie in our progression for these drills to be able to handle the 60m range when we started we did 15m skip 5m walk 15m skip 5 m walk 15m skip…

it served the purpose and worked for us but not sure is it was getting to far away from the objective of the exercise???

i think so, but thats just me…

If I may…I feel people shouldn’t get to got up in the distance travelled when doing Running A’s. If you really managed the speed at which the athletes travelling fwd you can get a whole lot out of 30m even 20m in some cases. With some of my athletes I’ve walked beside them at a pace so slow that they were cooked by b4 the 30m mark.

Around here some people are doing 60, 80 and 120m of running A’s more for the sake of saying that they done them at such a distance (pissing contest) then for the actually benefit. When this happens it often ends up looking more like bound/stride…sooo funny :stuck_out_tongue:

…remember quality  not quantity :frowning:

The main thing is for the coach to keep the walking pace consistent so that you have a benchmark for what you’re doing.

Yep! that’s why I focus on time more than distance. Heck you can do it in place for 90sec and get cooked!

we did these at a slow walking pace set by myself… i felt that inorder to get to the level of doing these over the 40 or 60m range we were better served breaking them down into stages…

through this learning curve the athletes were better prepared for when they took on those distances…

it worked for us but maybe not for others…

Have you considered skipping A’s for extended distances?

Randy

for my elite juniors (15-17) we are into the 60m range for the older more developed we head into the 100m range and in time will naturally take this out from there…

How many reps/set do you do and how has it impacted their performance? Just wanted to know what you have found.

Thanks

normally around the 3-4 reps.
to pin point or single out what it has done to performance on its own would be difficult as it fits in well with the rest of the program…

but have noticed tech holds form for much longer into the race in both the 100/200m
