Strenght Training for Begginers: Loading Approach vs. Learning Approach

I consulted for a number of years with Al Vermiel, first with the Super Bowl SF 49ers, then with the NBA champ Chicago Bulls, and also with Dick Vermiel of the Super Bowl champ St Louis Rams, so I do have some idea of how team sports work, and the role that weights play in it.

OUCH! Shrapnel got me and I was barely standing in the vicinity.

Charlie,
I didn’t wanted to insult you or something, or to say you don’t know the role of weights in team sports… Hell no! After all, who am I to say it! So, sorry if you felt it this way…
When I said “My own doubt in the CFTS is its usfulnes in team games…”, I didn’t met on a system in general, but rather on some of its parts you have presented with dealing with sprinters… not to say that you don’t know how to deal with team players, no, I just want to say that the concepts of 10day taper and weight maintenance periods are hardly done, and you know that too 200%, with athletes that have season long for 8 months (4+4), with very short off-season and pre-season and they must be in “shape” for every game… Altought 10day taper and maintenance phase can work wonders on a play-off or some cup, but I don’t see their applicity to league system…
Please correct me if I am wrong here!
And please, do not look at this as critique because it is not… I know you have worked with team athletes and I am now exploring Vermiels philosophy currently, so I am interested how would you modify CFTS for team-athletes… BTW I got forum review  so I will be re-reading it soon!
