Standing triple jump

I am performing a number of tests for a trainer to design me a program, and one of the tests he wants me to do is a standing triple jump. Can someone please tell me how to do it or direct me to a website that shows it. i am also listing the other jumps i have to do. any tips would be great since i am a baseball background with no idea on these events. thanks -BRETT

standing long jump
standing triple jump
10 vertical jumps in a row from the side
10 standing long jumps in a row with the total distance covered

Yeha, doing the standing TJ properly: Start from both feet behind a line (7 or 9m board maybe) at about shoulder width apart. Then jump and land on one leg (hop), jump out of this trying to drive ur opposite knee as high as possible and land on this leg, extending at the knee, but try and jump for DISTANCE, not height – even though some height is inevitable (this is the step). Next jump into the pit trying to put ur legs out in front of you and don’t lean back when u land - u want everything going forward —>. Remember to strike the ground at each contact point with maximum force landing on the heel first and NEVER on the toe first. And extend at the knee, this helps re-direct the force lengthwise, not downwards as gravity intended.

I’m not the best at explaning stuff with words, I’ll show you, but won’t tell that well. Anyway hope that helps. Anything else u need to ask, just yell it at me, and I’ll try to articulate it somehow.

To add to jumpers description;

start from a double leg take off, land on which ever leg is your normal take off leg, jump, land on opposite leg, jump and land on both feet

So if your 1st phase is right leg you would go:

Double
R
L
Land

If your 1st phase is left leg then you would go:
Double
L
R
Land

The idea is to cover as much horizontal distance as possible. As jumper stated, when taking off from a single leg be sure and drive your opposing knee into the air. Additionally, be sure and emphasize your arm drive when taking off.

HE GAVE YOU TESTS TO PERFORM TO EVALUATE YOU WITHOUT GIVING YOU ANY INSIGHT INTO HOW TO DO THEM PROPERLY!! Here’s your first step, skip the tests and fire the trainer. Man that gets my blood boiling.

James,
Would you test or evaluate someone through correspondence without giving them more information in how to do things correctly?

Here is a good link for it:

LOL!, only in America

No way Jose, in my correspondence programming questionnaire, which is very intensive, I inquire as to which lifts and drills my athletes are already proficient at performing. If I select to employ a lift or drill which is new to them then I supply a detailed description and, in certain situations, a photographic sequence of me performing the lift or drill.

Additionally, so long as the client has the capability to upload video to a server or mail me video, I analyze technique and provide feedback so as to initiate every possible action short of being with the athlete in person.

I refuse to contribute to the mediocre, misdirected, and entirely misinformed state of affairs that infects the S&C community like a plague.

Look for an upcoming article by Buddy Morris and myslef in which we going to go no holds barred on S&C coaches who wouldn’t know an orthopedically sound program if it landed in their lap.

I’ve always went R-R-L-Double. Starting off both legs feels weird. Is there a difference?

starting off with both feet makes more sense ( I think. ) You start off with a full blow if both feet. Then you give one side a blow and then the other. This is more symetrical I believe. You work both sides in about the same way ( not exactly of course ) I do consistant 9.50s using that way. It has improved over the years. Linearly with my sprint times. I don’t know? It might just be me. I have a P.B of 9.60 and last session I did 9.54 and sprinted 4.5s in the 40s so probably I’m in good form. It has always worked that way for me.

just wanted to thank everyone for their posts. if anyone has a site with a video of a triple jump let me know.

in fairness to the guy who is designing my program, he is requiring video of all drills, lifts, and excercises i am currently doing along with the jumps and several other tests. he is doing this to perform an anaylsis of me. this isn’t the actual program. he can’t see me in person due to the fact we live incredibly far apart and my budget constraints.
