i have arrived to a problem regarding squats. basically, i squatted the barbell with average weight on it, this was the first time squatting with weight, and felt a noticable amount of stress in my back (around the middle). i also had my older brother spot me and he said that my back was straight the whole time and i wasn’t leaning forward. i don’t think it that there was too much of a load, because my legs had generally no significant trouble with the lift. i also have no prior back problems whatsoever. is this just a beginner thing?
where was the bar on your shoulders and where were your eyes? your head and neck will go where your eyes are pointing…
i’m pretty sure i looked straight ahead the whole time. however, i might have positioned the bar too low on my neck/back area. i’ll try again tomorrow when i’ve got a spotter again. now that i think about it, it seems like my back just couldn’t support the weight and might have been curving. could it be a limited back strength issue? I think the problem is where i’m putting the bar on my back, so i’ll change that. i guess i’ll just have to see tomorrow. Thank you for your advice
you didn’t mention if you were using one, but there are weight-lifting belts to help keep your back straight during these kinds of exercises…
It seems that many Coaches coach on the track but train in the weight room…coach 100% of the time and we would see less risky business Cleans.
