You fail to understand the improvements in general athleticism brought on by this type of training.
And btw, I paid 440 for a condo… so i’m 40 g’s better than you.

How much did mike tyson bench press. How fast could he run. I’ll tell u if u dont know.
Your 40 g’s better but your not guaranteed to be a future millionare and I am.
I got the B’s. Remember that.
Where the hell did all the ranting come from? Why did this thread detour from an intelligent question to a ‘who’s got a bigger dick arguement’?!
Ok back to the queston. Does sprinting make you faster. I agree with david w’s answer.
CNS reserve while ben was injured was talked about in speed trap.
I think you should clarify the question by saying does sprinting alone help strength. Or are you referring to sprinting as well as strength training. It was too vague of a question so I started my rant.
For me, sprinting did take away from strength levels. I would have been much stronger when I wasnt a full-time sprinter. I discovered this when I was injured. I could lift a lot more in the weight room.
To clarify though… Thats what this is all about. Who is faster. Who is stronger. ect. ect. If you think other wise your fooling yourself. Hey, ato can work on abc and say whatever he wants. Im not afraid say it. You wanna talk about girth size be my guest.
B’s.
For the record, Ben could easily kick everyone’s ass on this forum.
Rupert
Actually, I’m still the best!
Buhahahaha… Buhahahaha…
Haha… internet fights.
besides lennox lewis!
Lennox grabbed him from behind and didn’t box!Just for the record, Ben DID do 2 x 6 x 600 in the squat past parallel ( classify that however you wish) on numerous occasions and in front of many witnesses- though not Dr Sprint, it appears.
I have also pointed out that there were other exceptional squatters in the sprints. Stan Floyd told me he did a Power Lifting contest squat at 675 but hurt his back doing it and never went that high again.
Good point about the lifting strength EXPRESSION going up when injured and not sprinting, but where did the reserve come from in the first place that allowed the immediate increase when the sprinting stopped? You’ve been lifting all along.
The combination of sprinting and weights, while complementary, take away somewhat from the absolute expression of either one till the final taper period when you see the real results.
I’m unclear on how the taper affects timing though. Are there issues with adjusting to moving faster or do you just handle that automatically? I mean can the athlete easily actually move faster without affecting technique, timing, etc.?
If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt it, not many powerlifters in Ben’s weight class, and very few bodybuilders, could match that without gear. Six parallel squats with 600lbs. on the bar and no gear is extremely respectable for anyone under 170lbs. of bodyweight. Ronnie Coleman (second video above) could, but he pushes 300lbs. bodyweight in the off season. Someone mentioned suits adding 90 kilos. The canvas suits used today add much more than that.
I understand your point but to be the absolute best in either one wouldnt you have to focus on one or the other. Take for instance in sprinting wouldn’t you want to focus on just the 100m or just the 200m instead of both. I understand that the taper period (for instance while im injured) would reap the highest rewards. From a personal note however, I have always felt that lifting was much more difficult while in sprint training. As you know being a sprinter yourself some days after speed work you don’t even feel like lifting. I understand your points though, and I can’t really argue with your logic.
For the record. I do not want to fight ben johnson. Biggest joke I have ever heard. I didnt bring up fighting. Actually I did. I mean ben can beat all these world class boxers come on. Thats why I even mentioned it. Also RDC in the 70’s squatted 800 pnds. Or take for instance dr.squat who squatted 1000 at close to johnsons weight 190 and had a 44 inch vertical. He’s an athlete. And the guy in that video. Hes not a fat powerlifter. Look at him, he looks like an athlete.
Half squat. Just past parallel. 1/4 squat. I need a drink. Even though I don’t drink.
165 POUND WEIGHT CLASS
WR 704 squat
Bnch 402 bench
WOMENS DIVISION. I forgot to mention that.
Do you guys even research records before claiming ben johnson can compete with world class powerlifters. Come on.

***Check those numbers this one says 725pnds at 165. Im not sure what her current best is. LOL 465 bench. WOW ****
thats amazing!!
The leviathan helps a little bit…
talking bout fighting, it all depends on where and how you were raised. So yes an athlete might not be able to fight if he never had foughten befor but on the other hand he might be able to do some damage if he was raised tough. And just because it doesnt fit your definition of a “max” then its not, is total nonsense. Just because it might have been a half squat doesnt mean it wasnt a max, duh. So man i think your making points that dont need to be made.P.S. how fast are those guys???..And comparing these guys with athletics is rediculous, i mean how many other sports can these guys do well, im gonna bet slim to non i think slim just left the building.
Your right. You can have maxes for full and half squat ect. I agree.
Charlie is still the king of sprint training and a very brilliant man. I will never argue that. But charlie come on lennox lewis vs ben johnson. That would be like me racing asafa powell in the 100m.
I am not taking any sides on this debate and am only trying to give some info about some issues that have been touched upon. I would just like to add with gear in certain federations (now I’m not talking USAPL or any single layer poly feds) there are 165’ers that get over 200 pounds out of their bench shirts and squat suits. In this months issue of Powerlifting USA if I recall correctly Mike Mazza raw bench is around 420-450 and he is over 600 in his shirt. Yes, you also need to consider the pause which is usually around what you can double or triple but the fact of the matter is that with a shirt on you are not able to lower the bar quickly to get that stretch reflex anyway so unless you are going raw the pause is no big deal. And don’t think Ben could have just put on a shirt and automatically added 50-100 pounds to his bench right away. It doesn’t work that way. Shirt benching is a skill that takes time to learn. Its almost a totally different lift. This past year I competed in a meet unequipped (165 class) and finished with a 335 bench ( it was my 3rd attempt I actually prob had 10 more pounds in me). In the gym without a pause I did 360. A few weeks later I got a single poly shirt and the first time putting it on I only 360 with a pause. I have only trained with it 3-4 times since I started track again so I cant say anymore about it. Btw, I missed top 100 by 30 pounds in the US this year from that one meet with my 335 bench and remember there is no raw divison.
To see the real raw records you will have to check certain federations raw records if they keep them. And please don’t check the actual “Raw Federation” they are a joke.
