Sprinting form

Whatz sup? Im new to the forum and this is my first year running track. I was wondering what i should do to improve my sprinting technique. I have a video of me running the 100m dash, I would be grateful if u could help me out and tell me what i need to work on (im the one in the orange). http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb122/trey029/?action=view&current=Track1.flv

Heres another video:

more knee lift, concentrate on stepping over the support knee and then concentrate on the downward motion.

From the second film, I’d guess you’re pretty tight in the quads. If yu concentrate on thoroughly warming up and stretching this area after every session, the knee lift will sort itself out. Work on keeping your shoulders relaxed and down

Charlie, regarding what to focus on for a beginning sprinter, do you think that more importance should be placed on driving the elbows backwards and keeping the shoulders relaxed, or on the legs and what they’re up to. This is, of course, if you had only one session to work with a developing athlete.

Is there anything else you see that looks wrong?

Another way to think about it is the heel to butt on the recovery phase, taking bigger bites of the ground with every step.

This could also be improved by better activation/strength in the glutes/hammstrings.

And, like Charlie, flexibility or tightness in quads and hip flexors.

Just practise…

How old are you?

i turn 17 in september

What is your PB:s?

100m: 11.1 fat on asphalt track 200m: 22.7ht are lunges good for strength training?

Here is a picture of me from that first video:

Looks good in the photo. lots of lift off the track. Work on your quad flexibility and things should go well.

Charlie, what signaled you that quad flex is/might be the issue? the foot not coming under the hips high enough?

Just looking a the flm, it appeared that he had some difficulty stepping over- the film is a bit hard to see.

At what point would you say maybe its a technical flaw? I guess I’m guilty of first saying it’s technical, then flexibility.

I had a few athletes who little knee lift, much less lift off the ground, got them to run with knees higher, and they ran faster, then had extreme soreness either in the workout or the next day.
