Sprint Drills

This topic has probably been explicated before on the forum, but i was just wondering are sprint drills such as the a or b skip really necessary to the development of a sprinter and what are their benefits?

When I reduced them to almost nothing in my program for high school sprinters (except for some correctional work of awful form), my kids started running better. I can’t speak for anything else.
