For a recreational sprinter such as myself, having 2 speed training days a week, and wanting to run the 200m in addition to the 100m this season, do I have a choice other than to tack one or two 200m at the end of my speed/acceleration workouts? I need to start now or I won’t have the speed endurance to run the 200, but I’m wary of hindering my results from the speed drills. Is it really that harmful to add a 200m onto the end of a speed workout? Does it ‘spoil’ the gains? Thanks again.
It may not spoil the gains but i think a better alternative would be to have one day dedicated to acceleration developmentas well as max velocity work and have the other dedicated to spe.endurance work. On the spe.end days you could easily do 20-30 meter block starts before your workout.
it could look something like this…
day 1: 4x30
4xflying 30’s with 20-30 meter fly zone
1-2x60
day 2: 3-5 20-30 meter block starts
4x150 or 2x200 2x150
Very helpful, thanks. I love the simplicity. But question: Will running those 200’s only one day out of the week be enough to substantially improve my fitness at that distance by spring?
