-0.8 m/s in Bolt’s race

one report said he eased up halfway, however don’t know how reliable that it is, although he could and has beenknown to do that in a 200m. If he did ease up at around 120m, or in similar fashion to kingstonJAtrials19.96 this is very good for ostrava

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHZVJhr2FhQ

Defintely no easing in that run. Bolt hasn’t looked impressive in either of his last 2 runs (at least not to his usual standards) and he looks frustrated too. We’ll see how the season goes for him

From my unskilled eyes that looked like an effort that it was enough to win and not much more. Bolt himself said that he would not attempt any world record runs this year.

Not his typical shut down, hard to tell how hard he was trying towards the end. Looked like he tried to maintain pace instead of pushing it.

I don’t think Usain would have signed up for the 300m race in Ostrava if he didn’t think he had a good chance of breaking the world record. He’s probably been under a heavy training load and will now be doing a short taper for the race on Thursday. He also ran a relatively easy/slow bend in Shanghai, so he may have just used this race to test his race distribution for Ostrava.

It’s a shame Brathwaite DNFed the 110mH

he won the race by 0,6 of a second.that is VERY impresive if u ask me

Didnt look like his typical easy run to me either…infact I saw shades of the old Bolt towards the end. For me I feel Tyson is going to be the one that gets him this year. Great to see Allen Johnson still running.

Bolt certainly looked as if he was just rolling out the final 80m. Maybe he “switched off” or maybe he was not fit enough to maintain the turnover. Either way, he ran something special into a decent little headwind. I agree though, Tyson looks like a major threat (like in 07?) over 200m.

By my reckoning now Tyson has run the fastest 100m split ever: his flying segmental between 50m and 150m in that chilly straight 200m exhibition. Next fastest (flying) 100m was Asafa’s anchor in Beijing, then came Usain’s anchor in Penn Relays - although all relay splits should be taken with a certain discretionary caution.

I believe that Bolt’s official split last year was 8.70 and Tyson’s split this year was 8.72. Asafa ran 8.70 in Beijing and 8.73 in Berlin. Usain’s anchor at Penn Relays was 8.79.

Geez Robin you had me confused. I thought you were talking about a relay split for Bolt and I was scouring the biomechs … then I realised you meant Bolt split a flying 100m in Manchester 150m last year. I had completely forgotten about that race. Thankyou.

According to the authoritative compiler of records - both track and vinyl  - Mark Butler’s report (below) states Bolt indeed clocked 8.70sec for the last 100m of his 150m in Manchester in 2009. I think that was in the rain too, or at least on a wet surface.

Manchester Street Race Analysis By Mark Butler
Powerade Great CityGames Manchester 2010

Gay’s straight faster than Smith … and Bolt

Tyson Gay has replaced Tommie Smith as the man who has run the fastest 200m in a straight line. In the process he clocked the fastest legal 100m of the year, and reached an even greater top speed than did Usain Bolt during his epic 150m on the same track last year. And he did so into a headwind and on a day so cool that he left his woolly hat on until the last seconds before the start!
Once again the extra photo-finish cameras positioned at every 50m along this suspended straight track in Manchester’s City Centre have revealed a fascinating picture.

Last year, Bolt was timed at a startling 4.26 for his second 50m. Despite heading for a greater total distance, Gay managed 4.20 in 2010. Before I too carried away I must point out that Bolt went on to run quicker still in the World Championships 100m final where his closing 60m was clocked at 4.94.

But the fact is that in similar weather, at the same time of the year, and in the same lane on an identical track surface, Gay ran a faster flying 50m and got to 100m in 9.89 compared with Bolt’s 9.91 a year ago. Thereafter the American lost ground, with his 100m to 150m being “only” 8.72 compared with the Jamaican’s 8.70 last year. Gay slowed further to 5.00 for his fourth 50m section, but this was enough for him to trim Smith’s 44 year-old world best of 19.5.

Thoughtfully the organisers also positioned a camera at 220 yards, where Gay was timed in 19.54. But as the IAAF no longer ratify world records on straight tracks, Smith – who was spectating in Manchester – will forever be the official world record holder with 19.5 at both distances.

Andy Turner and Allyson Felix also set electrically-timed world bests in their respective 200m straight races with Felix clocking 10.34 for her middle 100m. Neither of the 150m races were as quick as last year, but the women’s race featured a breakthrough by World Heptathlon Champion Jessica Ennis, who passed 100m in 11.39 compared with her previous best from blocks of 11.68. She held on to win from Shaunna Thompson (18) whose closing 100m was a swift 10.66, while in third place Christine Ohuruogu still ran quicker than at this stage last year and into a headwind.

Great jumping by Fabrice. He could give Jai’s national record a good shake this year given the right conditions and surface.

He jumped 8.78 at the Commonwealth’s. Unluckily for him he had a +3.1 m/s aid. Any way to convert that to +0 m/s??/

Aussie nationals actually - Comm Games aren’t for another few months. I think a light guy like Fab benefits a fair amount of wind behind him so I was interested to see what he could pull out in legal conditions and he hasn’t disappointed! A few good scalps in there as well - clearly had Saladino to afraid to start  . I’m not aware of any conversions for the LJ, just the short sprints, and I think the number of variables involved would make anything other than a statistical comparison pretty complicated.

This must be a recent decision. I seem to recall the IAAF ratifying Bolts straight 150m from last year as a World best performance. I’m sure Tyson won’t lose any sleep over it at any rate.
