Recovery routines with jogging and dynamic stretching?

On Friday when I went to the massagist, after the massage he made me do a recovery routine where I would do 2 or 3 minutes jogging and a minute of dynamic stretching, for 20 minutes (around 15 mins jogging and 5 minutes stretching in total). He told me that it was to get the blood flowing and remove waste products, which makes sense, but is this ideal for a sprinter? I was hesitant to jog and get any volume or fatigue into my legs the night before a competition, even a slow jog. Afterwards we finished off with static stretching as always. This guy is the massagist/regeneration specialist for the National rugby team (goes on all the tours, etc), so he evidently know his stuff … for rugby.

Has anyone here experimented with such recovery routines? Any observations?

Some easy strides and drills are great…with my early sprinters I try to cue issues that can be worked on and keeps some of HS sprinters lean. Also warm here in Boston.
