Clemson - As you have the experience of both swimming and track and field, please assist:
An athlete asked me for help regarding a programme.
Information:
Athlete - Male, 45 years of age
Modern biathlon - 1000m running; 100m swimming.
PB’s and goals - 1000m running - 3:18 (Goal 3:10); 100m swimming - 1:14 (Goal 1:10)
Season starts September; ends end of March
He can train ONLY for 30min per day, 6 days per week. At this stage his programme (out of season), Alternative days - swimming 1000 - 1200m; running 3 -5 km.
Programme (in season); swimming EVERY day; running 3 x per week.
My feeling is that he has to do speed as well - in swimming, as well as in running. And what about strength, even functional strength, as he hasn’t got time for “gym” work? What do you think?
