Question did some 200m testing last night

Did some testing last night. Can anyone give me advice on how it looks?

How does my fitness look based on these 200m times with the recoveries listed.

Runs were on a non banked indoor track in sneakers at ~90% effort

3 x 200 at ~90% with 3 minutes rest. (testing)

first was done in 27.8. Felt pretty good but was a little winded afterwards

rest 3 minutes and 30 seconds and then:

28.0 seconds (virutally identical to the first. actually felt a little faster/more relaxed in parts of the run)

I was pretty cooked after the second one. Had to take 5 minutes and 30 seconds rest.

On the third one as I was coming off the last bend two idiots walked right in front of me. I had to jam on the brakes and swerve around 3 lanes. Last one was in ~29-30 seconds. Felt like it would have been another low 28 if I wasn’t interrupted.

I am shooting for a 23 FAT outdoor time this year. I find it really tough running indoors (bends are murder for me)

Anyways how does that look? Am I on track fitness wise?

cheers,
Chris

Your fitness isn’t very good, but don’t get discouraged, as you’ve only been running for a few weeks. Just aim for steady improvements, and you’ll be suprised how fit you can get. My indoor PB is 24.18 FAT (probably sub24 outdoors), and I can do 8*200, all in sub29, with 4 minutes rest in flats (outdoors though).

thanks  I knew they were rough haha

I am going to repeat the test outdoors next week. Should be a good bit quicker. I am also going to give myself 4 minutes between reps and see how the times look.

Cheers and thanks,
Chris

Shoes v. spikes make a pretty big difference in my experience so that definitely has to be factored in.

I am pretty confident I can do 3 x 200 in the high 26- low 27 range outdoors with 4 minutes rest between reps at 90%. I’ll test next week to see

Cheers,
Chris

Why in your opinion would you say his fitness is not very good? I’m asking because he said that his first one was 27.8, second one was 28.0, and last one would have been also. Please explain.

I am going to repeat this test outside in spikes and see what the results are at 90% effort. I am guessing they will be in the 26 second range with 4 minutes rest and 3 reps.

It’s funny I used to be able to run outdoor repeat 200’s in 24 seconds hehe

DaGovernor:

Because I’m the same speed as him, and I can do about 8 at the speed he does 3.

Gotcha Alex.
