I was told that during winter, it’s better to do your press-ups slow to make them harder so that you gain more strenght and during summer I should do my press-ups quickly to get my body used to quick actions in sprinting.
Is this correct?

are u talking about push ups?
seperated by the same lanaguage … and the Atlantic ocean!
yes, if that’s how you guys call it, lol
i cant think of a reason why you would want to move at a moderate pace when your desire is to be explosive.
so indrectly, you’re saying that I should do them faster.
What should I do to gain strenght?
im saying you should do them at your fastest… as for your other question thats quite complex and maybe you should do a little reasoing around the site and ask more specific questions. lol books have been written based off that question.
(I’m tempted to say use the search button.)
Seriously mate - that’s like you stopping a bird on the side of the street and asking her what should you have for dinner…
Tell us something else about yourself
What are your stats? Age, years training, sport even.
Maybe have a look through some of the archives as well, while most here are very helpful - no one will just hand you a program without you doing some leg work yourself

That’s my Interview there, I’m new to this sport, but I’ve been doing circuits for the past 6 years. I’m looking for some more exercises that will strenghten my body for sprinting.
As you can see in my avatar, that’s my body. That photo was taken not too long ago.
My PR’s are 11.50 and 23.40. I have only trained 8 times this year and competed 4 times.
My training was done once every week for personal reasons. Some weeks I would go training, and some weeks I wouldn’t go.
I know I could have run sub23 easily and sub11.5 if I was training more and competing more.
Does that help?
hamstrings hamstrings hamstrings, hamstrings are a sprinters… no and athletes friend. really hams and gluts. your probably gunna see your greatest gain in speed on the track by gains in strength and power in this area. there is no one best excercise for training in one area but glute ham raises on a glute ham bench are good and if you can do them, manual glute hams which if you can do says a lot for your strength level.
ok. Thanks a lot. I got the grades I needed to get into University, so I’ll use the gym at my university. I don’t want to touch weights at the moment though.
Why not?
Well, I’ve never touched them in my life. I want to see how far my body can go without weights, then when I feel as though my body cannot improve any longer without weights, then I’ll turn to weight training, and see how far weights can take me.
I don’t want to put too much on my body too early. I’ve only started in March. My knee ligament injury ended my season in June.
um … yea thats not the best way to train. its just gunna take you longer to get the best out of your body.
ok. I don’t want to rush anything if you understand what I mean. I’m 18 years old and new to it all. I’m running on natural strenght. Hopefully with some winter training I should be able to perform better. Probably sub22.5.
Do you reckon i can go sub22 within a year? I’ve run 22.72s for the 200m in training…but that wasn’t FAT, that was hand-timed.
dont get me wrong your times are great for your first season. with a full season of training and some decent talent i dont see any reason you cant go sub 11. but training with weights is not going hamper your development. i think your under the assumption that weights can some how stifle your ability… not if you train with the properly. remember they are just a source of stimuli like doing push ups or sprinting itself. you are just using them to achieve a certain type of adaptation.
ok. Thanks a lot
