I need help in creating a workout plan for our summer AAU program. This is what I know so far.
Monday - Sprint
Tuesday - Tempo
Wednesday - SE
Thursday - Sprints
Friday - Rest
I have watch others giving kids everything from 500 on down and no sprints under 200, hardly ever 50’s or 60’s. I have received some help recently but I am confused on exactly what to give them. They are just coming off from their track seasons at school.
I think Herb was suggesting a tempo day between the SE and sprint sessions…
If meets are during the weekend, then perhaps it would be better to have the SE session early in the week -if at all, depending on how many meets there are in a row and other (de-)training factors- and it might be better coming back after a meet (i.e., vs. a sprint session); the sprints could be done later on in the week and before the meet.
Why not compromising a bit and having only two track sessions/week? They train pretty hard during the weekend anyway…
Thanks,
Tempo in between makes sense and I can see that in SE closer to a meet would be bad for the athlete. I am coaching the sprinters, the Head Coach really wants the to practice 5 days, I would like 3 days. We compromised with the others Coach’s and made Friday a rest day. I may be about to put a lighter workout on Thurdays for them like block work and sprint work. Does all sprint work need to be 95% intensity?
Thanks for the help. I have another question, Since the High Schooler just finished their District meets and State meets, they will be coming to us until August provided if they qualify for National which is in August, seems like these kids have already started peaking or are pretty close to it. I want to keep them from burning out. I do not want to overload them with too much too soon any suggestions?
What is the average training do you give a male/female high school sprinter? Also why
give them certain training? Seems like that I am asking much but I want to know. Many people have many training programs and they are all different… Thanks can someone help?
I suggest that you look over the forum. There is a tonn of info. You are definitly asking a lot, but if you look around on the site you will find that most of your questions will be answered.
If they are peaking now and you’ll get to know relatively soon whether they qualify for August, or not, then you may have to schedule another peak for that time…
At least there are more chances of success then, since I don’t believe there is a way of maintaining their current form till August.
As Herb said, there is quite some info in this site!
For specific questions though, let the forum know!
