Planning and Periodization [3 Main Requirements]

Charlie,

In CFTS “Modern Planning” states each period [ie early middle and late] includes all 3 types of training and all training elements are performed thru the year.

The early period ,in part, shows high intensity work interval runs --30-50m and short speed acceleration work.

I can see the latter covers Starts and Acceleration[type1], but do the interval runs cover Speed and Max Vel and Speed End[type 2and3] and is the distance to 50m significant?.

At a latter point in Plan Period–page 104 you state that “Max Speed during this time would be not emphasised, it would be a mistake.”

My take on this is that the INTENSITY of the Speed and Max Velocity component in 30-50m would not be so great during phase 1 as to increase potential for injury but sufficient to gain gradual improvement to merge into phase 2 where MAX INTENSITY AND VOLUME of this component along with an increase in the Speed End distance to 80-120m would become the focus.

With regard to achieving some S/E in phase1 are the 50m high intensity interval runs done with reduced or minimal recovery and less than max intensity to achieve this?

I feel that a complete and accurate understanding of this issue is crucial in correctly applying your system of planning and periodization.

Charlie, Anyone???
