Peaking

I am in the final days of my peaking microcycle for the combines and was hoping for some insight.

I was looking at CFTS, p 108 and there is a 10 day peaking micro-cycle. One of the feature is that the last speed day (at 95%) is done two days before the target competition. However, I have found recently that my speed sessions (at 100%) go better if I allow two days between them. This would push my final speed session back to three days before the combines.

My question is: how important is it to have the final speed session two days before the target competition? I’m assuming that it is there to provide the final bit of CNS stimulation. Since I ‘feel’ more recovered after 2 days of rest, I’m inclined to push the last speed session back to three days before but on the other hand, since it is only at 95% so perhaps I won’t need my usual recovery time?
