Not lifting the week before a meet

What impact would this have?
What is the best thing to do lifing-wise the week before a big meet?

How important is the meet? Is it to qualify for something? Is it the big one for the season?

Herb is asking some good questions. I would also ask, what event(s) are we talking about, and are the qualifying and semi’s in say a 100 or 200, relays, hurdles, etc

The meet is the big one for the season and I’d like a medal in the open 400m :).
Other than that I’ll be running the 41, probably the 200m and probably the 44.
Saturday are the trials for the open 400 and 200. Finals and relays are the following day.

Remember that weight lifting can be very taxing on the nervous system. Not to mention the muscles! Unless I am mistaken, Ben Johnson lifted only once the week of the Seoul games, and that was the bench press. Remember also that Ben had very superior recovery techniques in place already and was an elite athlete.

You probably won’t be hurting yourself if you don’t lift at all.
