ABUJA - The sprint event of the Mobil Track and Field Championship taking place in Abuja saw Blessing Okagbare leads the trail of other qualifiers in the women 100m when she ran 11.38, to lead other qualifiers.

Other qualifiers include Damola Osayemi, Agnes Osasuwa, Halimat Ismaila, Gloria Kemasode amongst others.

The heats sprung no surprises as all stars strolled into the next round.

Similarly, all the top contenders in the men 100m made it to the next round: Olusoji Fasuba, Obinna Metu, Ngwogwu Onyeabor, Ogho-Oghene Egwero won their races, with Onyeabor posting the fastest time of the heat, 10.42 sec.

In the field event that was decided this morning Kenneth Ndubueze came first, with a throw of 66.47m, followed by Friday Osayande who threw a distance of 66.30 to place second, Kingsley Igbimosu 62.33 made him the second runner up of the event.

In the other track final that took place, Danjuma Kopkudi won the 10,000m event in a not too impressive time of 31.17.01 secs.

What is “the field event”. I would guess it’s not the shot put.

Hmm. It could be some pretty strong discus throwing, or some pretty poor hammer or javelin throwing.

Yes, the Nigerian reports are often “challenging” :D:rolleyes::confused: but there are some beasts there in Nigeria and I’m assuming this report refers to the men’s discus chuck.

Having finally found a link to the Nigerian aths federation which functions, I have been (as of the time of this post) unable to find any results even at the conclusion of the first day of competition. One might have assumed the search via Competitions and then Results might have yielded info on their national championships… but Not As Such
