Muscle relaxant

For the last 2 months I have been on a mission to increase my flexability. So far so good with every muscle group except my hammies. Willing to try anything, so does anyone know of any aromatherapy oils or lotions that help in relaxing muscles. Someone told me Basil oil might help. Any ideas?

Try to relax first your psoas muscle.

Jamirok - along this same line as asked - we know calcium/Mag tabs are good for releasing tight muscles, but, what about tight fascia? I have a few clients, im sure most of the problems they suffer are tight fascia more than just muscle.

Especially around hips area. Is this where Arnica cream works?

We can release the tension, lasts for a few days now (v’s being tight for the last 2yrs) but the tightness keeps coming back every few days. Perhaps its just something that needs constant attention? Or perhaps there might be a supplement for Fascia Tension? Or even a specific way of stretching perhaps?

Items that do work
Foam rolling
Deep Squats (proper form)

What doesn’t or has not.
physio
acupuncture

Cheers

Foam roller for psoas, am I missing something?

Generally at structural level, anterior (or posterior) femur head have the priority, then TFL/ITB/adductors fascial restriction, ankle subluxation (chiro subluxation), sacroiliac joint subluxation, sacral torsion, low back or generic spinal fixations, need ortothics, malocclusion problems can be a cause of recurrent tightness.
Supplement and Arnica cream can be usefull for coadiuvate therapy and help with recovery.
A good acupuncturist can work on specific meridian pathway to release muscle tension and restore proper energy balance.
A progressive hip joint mobilization help a lot.

Thanks heaps

Couple of questions

  1. My Bowen therapist has recommended Comfrey cream for muscle relaxation. Has anyone tried this?

  2. This is more about injury but for a few months now I have had a pain in my left glute, but the pain is at its worst when I stretch my hamstring and when I sit in the car for a period of time.

I have seen either physio, massage therapists, myotheropists and osteo twice a week for 3 months and no improvement at all. Each one of them said it was coming from my back. Saw a bowen therapist and after just one session felt 90% better. After second sesson felt 95% better and after third session felt 99% better. She said all the muscles around the femur had tightened and locked it up. All was good for a month, but had my second race for the year on saturday and felt like I had torn my glute in the same spot as the pain I had been suffering with for the past few months. Like before it doesnt hurt when I stretch my glute, but hurts when I stretch my hamstring. Could it be my hamstring causing pain in my glute?

There are no supplements that directly affect specific muscle tightness.
Some may have general affects.
Neither are topicals much benefit and certainly not long term
For specific muscles take Jamirok’s advice on the structural approach with accupuncture or a form of EMS a fast stop gap and structural adjustment a more long term approach.

Bowen works a lot on CNS/NS regulation, light “slap” on specific area…nice technique, nice work.
Do your therapist use Bowen or NST?
Thank You.

Well, not the psoas directly… might be somewhat of a challenge.
You should be able to PNF the psoas somewhat though.

The therapist I have been seeing does Bowen, very impressive results. Like you said Jamirok its just a light slap/flick on certain areas. But she said her technique is slightly different to other bowen therapists. If anyone out there has not tried bowen, give it a go. Like I said earlier I have spent many hours and dollars on other therapists and nothing. And the physio I see is one of the most respected in the state, if not country.
Something interesting the Bowen therapist told me is that when I see her, I should not get massage because it will reverse the effects of the Bowen. Has anyone herd of this before?

Thanks for the help

What so particular do your therapist have?

What so particular do your therapist have?

Not sure what you mean. If you are talking about what is different between my Bowen therapist and other Bowen therapists I couldn’t tell you because I have not had anyother Bowen to compare it to.

ok, what do you mean? just curious.

All she does is checks your posture, and works from there. She works all over body, from fingers to toes, if one muscle is tight then it sets off a chain reaction and effects every other muscle in the body. She does a poke and a flick on a muscle, waits a minute, checks if the muscle has released and then moves on to anyother body part. The only time it hurts is when she works on the gastroc head. Her belief is if you push and work on a muscle to hard it can tighten the muscle even more, because that is the normal reaction of the body. When pain is produced a muscle naturally tightens.
