Long Walks for Recovery

I was talking to a 400/800 guy on the weekend about tempo and recovery workouts. One thing he does after an intensive workout is to alternate tempo runs with long brisk walks of up to 1 hour.

I’m curious to know if there are any merrits to such an approach. Do any of you substitute tempo or any other form of recovery workout (i.e. pool) with long brisk walking?

I would say that long walk works 1/2 of tempo, at least for me.
When i do tempo, body temperature goes high and high and i swet since from the beginning to the end, when i walk a lot, temperature is higher than normal but not so high and i don´t swet.
I notice sometimes, that long walks works negatively.

How do you mean that it works negatively? Does it affect your recovery the day after, or do you just not like long walks?

I live in a neighborhood with high and low altitudes, so, sometimes, when i´m walking, i use to walk faster than normal even on hills, that´s when the walks works negatively. I know, it´s a question of “don´t go like this” but…
