Kenteris Training

PJ, about risk injury totally agree.
It is interesting to note that so many good female sprinters have come from east europe, and they are always big on the so called “specific” strength exercises, whereas from male counterparts has been somewhat harder.
Whit the same comparative level, male east european should have approched 9"9s several time.

Sorry to insist on this, but what exactly do you mean with the highlighted part above? Why’s that?
Thanks!

Not sure about your question but my guess is that very deep squats as they do may lead to a high mobility in hip flexors ?

OK, I was just asking for your opinion in relation to the two -deep squats and high knee lift.
Thanks!

agree for mobility, but maybe more responsible could be high knees runs with ankle weights?
used here in italy, kneees over parallel

a tad irelevant but i saw Olu training and met pierjean who is a terribly nice guy, very caring with his athletes. Well to the point, pierjean is obviously onto something with the squat thing (its almost so obvious it hurts:p) Olu has a phenomenal knee lift, i wached him doing some 30m sprints, just beautifull.

great athlete, great coach an honor to meet them both

Deep squats also develop the outer portion of the hip flexors in a way that nothing else can (i.e. Flo Jo’s outer thigh/hip flexor).

I noticed very deep squats, even with weight that is not especially heavy (65-75% of max) really tightened up my hip flexors when I went as deep as possible. Thoughts/concerns?

You just need to get used to it. If you have never trained through this range of motion then sure it will cause problems initially… once things settle down you should be fine.

Agreed. That is a short-term issue.

He doesn t use full squats but quarter squats because i am not sure about of his knee s health with sharp angles and that he doesn t tolerate much the efforts done in the gym anyway.
I work manually on Olu hips mobility and avoid hurdle walkovers as much as possible because we have encounter groin problem with even just light work on this last year.

The most phenomenal knee lift belongs to Obikwelu i will try to post pictures his knee is well above parallell at top speed.

ah i see, well that makes two of us, i also never do full squats because of PFPS, so that makes me equal to olu:p:D

PJ,

I don’t understand why going past parallel would equate to a superior knee lift…Wouldn’t that then have a negative effect (Coming back towards the body) Isn’t high knee lift where the knee is furthest away from the body?

Could also be due in some cases to a slight forward lean and poor core strength

I would hazard a guess you don’t get it on Front Squats as much?

I know this is now going to start going off topic … but … how do you intend to prehab the groin symptoms?
What do you suspect the issue is?

Is this really desirable? I would have through that since the knee moves in a circle once it goes above the furthest point from the body then any extra knee lift is wasted?

I don’t think PJ means that this high knee lift is superior/desirable, as I know he doesn’t necessarily support it. I guess he was just stating the fact. PJ?

Yes i dont support this, i was just telling that Francis has the highest knee lift ive ever seen.

I don’t understand the first question, what is prehab?
As for Fasuba, that’s not only groin, that s any new exercise which leads to local pains on the precise area which was worked. That’s why i have thrown away all the specific exercises usually done in France as it was too risky.
Even walk over hurdles caused problems. When i told this to some French coaches last year, they told me, well, your guy must be REALLY talented for sprints then. Yes, to a point they didnt imagine, indeed.

  1. Prehab = injury prevention

  2. Whats the relationship between groin tightness and sprinting talent?

injury prevention = proper warm up and never do an exercise which is not necessary. Don t try to look like a smart coach with complicated exercises, the more simple you workout, the easier it is to know the whys and hows and whats. Note that he has no doctor or physio at all (who is going to pay that?), and did his first ever professional massage out of competition few days ago.

for #2, there is no relationship at all, sorry i might express myself baddly. Just that my collegues think that tightness after new exercises and lack of flexibility are signs of very fast and explosive sprinter.
