Incorporating sprinting into strength training routine?

I follow the westside barbell routine of 1 max effort lower body workout on Monday and 1 dynamic effort lower body on Thursday. I really want to work on my overall sprinting speed and jumping ability but I am confused on what would be the best way to incorporate it in my schedule.

I can work out everyday I have no limitations really.

What is the optimal amount of volume of sprinting I should do and how often? sets, reps, distance, and rest periods would be so helpfull if anyone had any info or articles i could read!

Thanks!

2x a week on your lower body days. 200-350m should do the job distance 20-60m.

max effort:
2x5x30
throws 15x

dym effort:
2x30 standing
2x30 3pt
4x60

Thanks alot. Would that not be too much for one workout if i did them together? I’m usually pretty spent after my leg workout.

Try it out and see how it feels. I generally separate my weights and my track work though. However, that is partly due to time restraints, so it keeps the sessions shorter. If you wanted to seperate the track and lifting, I’d do the track on the Sunday and Wednesday, and the lifting the following day.

Thats why you should do your speed workout first follow by strength training. If you gonna use the max effort method i would do 3-5rm, also remember just bc you are doing max effort does not mean you have to fail every week you could always do 5x2x90% or 4x3x85%.

Why are you designing your speed around the weights? What’s your objective anyway?

Generally I would suggest you change the title of your question to “incorporating strength training into sprinting routine”. Unless you have 6 weeks to prepare for a combine or something I’d be looking at a long term approach to improving acceleration and linear speed and fitting my weight training around that.

What do you think about during max effort work “westside style” while trying to develop speed?

My objective is to basically become a better athlete. I’ve been using the conjugate method for awhile now but recently i’ve wanted to add some sprinting into it but I was just clueless on what to do w/o overtraining.

what sport are you training for?

Track and field. I run the 100m dash.

What do you think about during max effort work “westside style” while trying to develop speed???..I dont understand what you’re meaning here?

point is when trying to develop speed i wouldnt follow westside training.

do you think that training like a powerlifter is the best way to become a better sprinter?

oh ok i understand. Are there any programs or articles i could read that would be better of than westside template?

CFTS would be a great start. everything should be based around your speed program.

For example in gpp you could lift similar to this:

Mon/fri:
back squats 3x8-10
bench press 3x8-10
Rdl 3x8-10
rows 3x8-10

Wed:
pc 12x2
db incline 3x10
rev hypers 3x10
pullups 3x10

Spp/max strength block:

Mon:
power clean 5x2x80-85%
back squats 4x3x80%
bench press 4x3x80%
rdl 3x5
rows 3x5

Thur:
hang clean 4x2x80%
Snatch dl 3x3x80%
lunge 2x5
incline press 3x3x80%
pullup 3x5

which days would i include sprinting?

on the days you lift weights.

I don’t think you need to necessarily lift and sprint on the same day. However, if not, I would do my heavy lifting the day after my sprinting. That’s how I operate.

I know this, im not going to list every possible template he could use.

Lol, ok. Just wanted him to be aware he didn’t have to do them both on the same day.
