Ice Cups

I read where Charles Staley suggested icing the muscle immediately after exercise as a possible way to speed recovery. If this was the case would post workout stretching be completed before icinc.

That’s how I would do it.

yes. well as soon as youre done cooling down and stretching then you ice… after you cool down your muscles are still warm and stretching would be more beneficial…
stretching cold muscles after icing would not be the way to go…

Are these ice cups worth while investments? (especially for part-time (weekend warrior) athletes?)

I always make sure to finish with cold water.
I take a 20 min (max) bath.
(I have read somewhere that longer than 20 mins can have the opposite effect.)
I don’t warm the bath up beacuse I think finishing with cold promotes circulation long after you have left the bath.
I do this often after late evening sessions so that increased circulation will continue into the evening.
Comments?

So Clemson …

Ice baths at least one hour post exercise to allow for cooling down and the imune system to remove debris and the bath for 15-20 mins to further promote the circulation?

And what after tempo ? …
Contrast showers?

I must say though I’ve noticed that hot or cold baths have more or less the same effect on my sleep.

I find because of the increased circulation following cold baths I sleep as normal.

[Incidently - warm baths can encourage too much perspiration and this can encourage head-colds if the room temp. drops thru the night. - probably only an issue in my climate]
