Yesterday i applied the step over drive down cue to my technique and I ran personal best in the 40-yard dash…my fastest time was a 4.44 but now it is a 4.35 but i have a problem…My 100 meter dash time is slacking…yesterday i ran a 11.13 my friend runs that also but he runs a 4.7…Do you guys have any tips that can help me maintain my speed?
Wow, 4.35, that’s moving. Obviously you are dying out quickly and cannot stay at top end speed. What is your training program?
Relaxation is key for the latter stages of a sprint.
Speed Endurance at 120-200m (150m great distance for the 100m) 10-15 mins rest inbetween or more if you need it, 3-4x or 2x3 (longer break between sets).
Improvement of fitness will “help” and develop a base for maintaining your speed. So tempo would be your friend here 2000-2500m of tempo at 75% speed (broken into reps of 100-300m of course). Circuit training will help as well.
And of course…relaxation! Keeping shoulders low and relaxed, keep your jaw and face like when you’re just sitting at home doing nothing, have no expression! Entire upper body just relaxed, and have the “feeling” of relaxation, so basically after 60m forget powering, you wont accelerate anymore, so simply relax and maintain your speed, dont forget a proper dip at the finish line! (Will save you a couple hundreths)
lets see your training program.
what type of timing system was used for the 40-yard dash? Knowledge timmons, currently playing football for pennstate ran 10.4 in the 100m with a 4.35 40yard dash.
Im willing to bet 100% it was hand timed
wouldn’t hand timing only add to the actual time?
I mean reaction time has to add a couple of miliseconds, I don’t see how it could result in a alower time.
Couple milliseconds?
Hand times are generally quicker, as the time keeper needs to react to the gun, and also the attempt to predict when the line is crossed.
It was hand timed but i ran it 5 times and average the times together
Now add .2-.24.
Hand times are rounded up to the nearest whole fraction though right? i.e. 10.72 handtimed is recorded as 10.8
Thats not correct because i ran a 4.46 FAT a year ago
How was it FAT? There is no FAT timing, even at the combine. They still have a manual (hand) timed start with a laser finish–not FAT.
To say it is not correct is a bit arrogant. That is the standard method of converting hand times to electronic!
I think someone may be doing some ego boosting
Ladies and gentleman, someone on our forum has run as fast as justin gatlin
thats not what im trying to say…It started once i took pressure off of my hands…Im not saying im as fast as Justin Gatlin im trying to get help…lets say I do run a 4.35+.24=4.59 what should my 100 time range? P.S. i don’t have an ego im just posting times…in all of my races im in front of the pack for the first 60 meters even my competitors that run 10.4…im just trying to figure out what my problem is
So you run about a 6.7 60m (you say you’re in front of 10.4 guys to 60m) and run 11.1 100m? If that really is the case (doubt it), you need to work on your fitness and not tightening up the second half of the race. There’s no way you drop off that much unless you’re in really bad shape and have very inefficient running.
Even Leonard Scott doesnt drop off that much
If anyone is really slowing down that much, get in 100x better shape and do lots of longer runs (tempo or whatever you want to).
You’d think all the speed reserve built from a 6.7 would give you a sub 11 second performance
