History lessons!

Charlie,

You’ve mentioned, “Remember that, when discussing different successful training programs, there is no right or wrong. This is a history lesson- not a debate. Any change to a successful program carries with it the risk of introducing undesireable side effects.”

I have a pretty good understanding (I hope) of what you did in phase I. What I don’t have is an understanding of the transition into phase II from the end of phase I competition period. I would like to know how you did things from 1985 season to the 1988 season. Also, what, if any changes would occur in that particular transition period (phase i to ii) from the periodization change of a double periodization to a triple periodization that you made in the 1987 season?

The other question that I have for you is what were the weight training changes that you made from phase I to phase II starting in the 1985 season in terms of frequency and sets on a per week (typical) basis? From my undertanding (please correct me if I’m wrong), that a typical week for lower body (squats) would be around 2-3 worksets 3/wk (mon/wed/fri) done after speed. Rate of improvement you’re looking for in phase I is around 4-6%. You’ve mentioned that you reduce the amount of lifting in phase II to allow for max velocity runs and that you’re looking for only 2-4% gains in str in this phase. How much lower in terms of sets and frequency does it get in phase II?

If you could be specific in your examples that would appreciated. (I refer back to the opening statement)

Schools back in and I’m waiting for the teacher to arrive!

I appreciate your time, effort and patience regarding this matter.

Derek

Waiting patiently for the professor to arrive.

Any word on when the teacher might arrive or other students. I’ve been sitting in this class for a long time now!

Any information would be greatly appreciated ESPECIALLY from Charlie!
