this is a fairly basic question about hip flexors, because i haven’t found a solution which eliminates the tightness and pain. as a young female hurdler and sprinter i have more trouble with one leg than the other, but both are affected. I have tried spot-specific icing and stretching, as well as massage, without lasting results. i’ve heard about therapies like ART and do- it-yourself medicine ball massages, are these worth looking into?
also, would it be productive to strenthen that particular area, or will it just become overloaded?
A few sessions of ART should get things losened up. There are many exercises that can be done walking over hurdles to loosen and strengthen the hip flexors without an overload.
(Of course all this is without not knowing anything particularly about Krasnayafleur’s specific case …)
While ART will more than likely relax the muscles and ceratinly assist in improving hip flexor ROM - Unless causing pain - Why NOT stretch to loosen and maintain ROM in the Hip Flexors?
(Denis - perhaps you mean do not stretch until after ART treatment?)
Sure - improper and inaccurate use of stretching techniques will cause as much harm as good - but in many if not most cases - is failure to stretch and stretching improperly (as well as MANY other issues) not a major contributing factor to most hip flexor issues?
with the start of field hockey, the stress on the hip flexors is pretty intense… is it the consensus that i SHOULD or SHOULD NOT stretch them?
also- i want to keep up occasional hurdling training, my flexors are sore but not preventing me from activity. would hurdling just be overload? i feel like they’re maybe not the best area to center so much activity around…
