Grip

What are your thoughts on a thumb under or thumb over grip for exercises such as chins, Bnech etc? benefits?

im sure someone could present an argument for one being more biomechanically effecient than the other but i say whatever you feel comfortable with and then stick with it.

thumb over grip.period

deadlifts, thumb under, alternating grip
most other things, thumb over.
just personal liking

Thumbless for BP is asking for trouble. Yes I know there have been guys who did it, but there have also been those who dropped it on their chest

What are you guys using for the clean and snatch ?

I use hook grip for deadlifts, snatches & cleans. Everything else I use regular grip. I found out the hard way about benching with a false grip. I got sloppy and the bar fell on my upper abdomen. Luckily it was only 185 lbs at the time (I was in high school). I never tried it again.

I use straps for as many exercises as possible. I almost always use them for cleans, snatches, chins and rows. If you think about it it makes sense. Why would you limit the amount of weight you can lift just because your grip is weak? Is there really any point in working your forearms every exercise by not using straps?

You use them for cleans and snatches? What if you drop a lift and the strap doesn’t release cleanly? Wouldn’t hook grip and some chalk be infinitely safer?

I do hang cleans and keep the bar off the group the whole time. It’s tough to drop the bar with straps on. I find it more of a risk lifting without straps because you can easily lose your grip on the 2nd pull with heavy weights.

happens more than one would think.

Damn that scared the crap out of me

I’m sure glad I’m not that dumb.

Holy shit…

A lil more weight this time

Verily, his feet left the ground.

What do people think of this: using straps as much as possible?

I play basketball and I have Popeye forearms from years of back work via pullups, rows, deadlifts. I think this muscle development makes my wrists too stiff and wrist mobility is important for my skill work. So I’m just contemplating using straps on everything from now on.

Thoughts?

i think straps are great, i only use them for hang cleans and snatches bc with the power clean i just drop the weight and it save my grip.

Forearm massage can aleviate most of the stiffness.
