Do you find it effective? I was thinking of importing some for winter work outs. Would you reccomend it?
I’ve used UA gear coming up on 2 winters now and I can say it definitely works. Once you warm up it keeps the heat very well. I’ve workout out in weather as cold as 30F/-1C and got warm enough to break a slight sweat under the gear.
Charlie,
you mentioned in the dvd that in the 7th week, Sp Endur is added by 1 hill session/week with the 60s and this goes up to 80s in the following weeks; does this mean that the last tempo of the week -provided you run them Tue/Thu/Sat- is taken out? or at least for a while, until Sp Endur is transferred to the track along with the others, where at this point tempo runs return to 3 per week?
thanks!
Temperature tolerance is entirely individual but, in part, depends on build type (heavier set sprinters can usually tolerate cooler weather a/c more internal vol vs surface area). To help with cool weather tolerance, you can supplement with additional Flax-seed oil or equivalent, additional Carnitine to help burn more fat, and more pre-workout calories in general.
As for under armour, who makes it, where can you buy it, and how much does it cost?
When hill runs are added Sat, you can drop or, at least lower the vol of tempo for that day.
You can purchase it at underarmour.com for about 60 dollars; however, I would check with your local athletic shop or bike shop first. I know for a fact that in Edmonton I could have purchased one long sleeved shirt for about 40 dollars but regrettably I did not.
Go to underarmour.ca and from there you can choose a dealer within your own province and then compare prices.
Definitely, I wore it once as my coach lent to me and found that I was way to hot in the gym. How it works is that it keeps your own body heat within the suit or shirt the best it can. I’ve never seen or felt anything like it before.
You can use it in the gym if your gym is cold or the retarted staff person as ac on for all those joggers/bodybuilders that find the gym to hot so the ask for the ac to be turned on and don’t realize that they could be tearing a pec any second now. As for general use, I definitely would use it in the gym anyways because it keeps your body warm like you just got off a 10 min bike ride. It will help eliminate injuries.
Charlie, I know you have some new stuff coming out but I was curious about those graphs in your Vancouver videos. You said they would be coming in textbook soon, do you plan to release one within the following year, or will these be on an ebook format available soon as well.
It will be released in E-book format for now.
For CF,
I’ve searched the threads on med ball work and it seems that 9-11 lbs is general med ball used for exlosive throws and core work. Could you make it clear on what type of weight the med balls should be for the core work and explosive throws; furthermore, what type of med ball would you recommend for the above mentioned throw? Gel med ball, regular med ball, bounce type med ball (if you don’t have a partner?
Don’t laugh but is there a guideline based on your 1RM squat for example or how far you can explosively throw the ball or how many reps you can put up for core work?
P.S. I ordered the Underarmour coldgear. The mock turtleneck and the action leggings which ended up costing me $151 CDN total, maybe next year I’ll order the coldvest. I’ll keep everybody updated to how good this stuff really is.
(Thanks. I was going to ask what the underarmour cost for both parts as I think many peope will be interested)
As for assigning weights and distances for explosive med ball work, it’s tough to say as differing heights and arm lengths as well as weight affect the results. It’s worth keeping track of your results for your own reference, but any relationship with weights will be highly individual.
The ideal med ball for core work may be a little lighter than for explosive work BUT the force is far more of a determinant than the ball weight so most people have one ball that is a reasonable compromise, which usually runs from 5 to 6 kg. If you do straight leg med ball lifts etc, you’d need a lighter ball but I wouldn’t do those exercises unless expertly supervised.
Bad Medicine?
Various medicine balls should be used and this makes it tough…while some creative coaches make world record holders using concrete bricks (charlie) it makes it easier to use
Powerballs- snatch throws
Powersystems balls - for medball drops and chest passes
Hard Rubber - outdoor track throws
Weights will vary and be carefull of shoulders and joints.
Charlie,
there is another company out there called Game gear, they make similar products like under armour but half the cost.
Yes. But we did have the two different weights of construction block! (One full and one broken in half)
Charlie
When can you come over to the UK to do a seminar…im sure you’d have a full house.
Why? Do you have extra construction blocks? Seriously, though, someone local would have to arrange it and make the guarantees. Anyone interested could contact info@charliefrancis.com
Charlie,
in week 5, on Wed -the first track session- you have on the dvd 6x10m from flat on ground; i’m trying to figure out what exactly this means, but… i can’t…
could you briefly describe it? does it refer to a specific position as the rest of the accel?
thanks!
I can’t speak for them, all I know is that I would rather have the sure thing. Seeing as the gear should last for a long time.
P.S. What is Game Gear and where can you get it?
Actually every piece of under armour i have has frayed or ripped and never once did a shirt make it through and entir football season wothout falling apart.
This means just that your start position is lying on your stomach (like doing a push up in the down position). Then on the gun you do a push up and accelerate.
