My wonderful wife bought us passes to a spa today, Includes massage, mineral baths, cold/hot pool etc.
What should I get done? My legs are a little cooked from speed/heavy weights two days ago and longer tempo yesterday (4x4x150meters)
I am thinking a shallow massage on my legs (My calfs have a bit of residual soreness and my hips/hammies are a little tight…)
cold pool and sauna?
Any other ideas? I didnt want to get deep massage as I dont know the skill level of the therapists and dont want any deep soreness as I am doing speed tomorrow.
What do you think? Anything else I should try and get done?
I am pretty excited my legs have been screaming for a little TLC! haha!
No cucumbers and seaweed wraps? What music is going to be played…navajo flute in the desert , mystic sea scapes, or Enya?
I would go with as much as you can…charlie is right, perhaps there deep tissue is lymphatic work! Remember that most therapists have less strength then they need.
Put efforts in getting both expertise and money for the therapy. If you massage some HS sprinters remember to:
I do it in a public area…
I have witnesses that are present…
I know what I am doing…
I have improved 200% and know I must find better massage therapists here in Boston since I am better then the people I was paying. What pisses me off is nobody wants to do it! If you are a coach and cant do a rub then that is lame. I still will find ways to pay for therapy in Florida since southwest is dirt cheap.

FIND A WAY TO GET THERAPY.
One thing you can do is see a expert physio one time to gage the level of expertise depth wise and stroke feel, and then try to guide the other therapist to go deeper or lighter.
They had a cold pool and a hot whirlpool and sauna. I would go in the hot whirlpool for 3-4 minutes then jump in the cold pool for 1 minute and back in the hot. It was great!
Then did a aroma thing where they seal you off in a box like contraption and sort of steam you. It felt pretty odd and I was a little cramped but ended up falling asleep for 20 minutes.
Finally had the massage and had them concentrate on my lower back and legs. It was great I found she was going a little too deep and told her to lighten a little but it was really good. I am definitely ready for speed tomorrow. It is amazing what the right recovery methods can do for you!!
I have a physio who is one of the top in the world when it comes to massage. I watched him for hundreds of hours and learned the basics. I got some work done on myself and then could gage optimal depth and how to prepare tissue for work.
Watch what the experts do- get the therapy done on you, so you know what it’s like, and practice, practice, practice. After a few years, you can get pretty darn good. Just don’t get in over your head. Do the routine maintenance work and let an expert do the injury work at first.
