I’d also appreciate if anyone could tell me where I can read up on conjugated training (apart from Elitefts.com) i.e books. I’m also considering reading Bompa’s book atm.
Shaun,
A flat loading macrocycle would have two or three microcycle with exactly the same training units (and training means) and only minor (yet significative) changes in volume and/or intensity. After the two or three loading microcycles you would have an unloading one.
I would not be so fast to dismiss Bompa’s book, as it is really one of the best (and least understood, or actually read) books in our field.
There could be better ways to improve strength than sequential periodization of strength but then we have to integrate them with the actual sport activity, and that is a whole different matter.
I recognize that what is misnamed conjugated approach is better suited for team sports than the sequential periodization of strength, especially if the season is pretty long and we are dealing with high level athletes.
